Big Poe Locations:

Big Poes are found in Hyrule Field. They are not to be confused with normal Poes, which are purple and have frowns when defeated. Big Poes are golden, and have smiles when defeated. They also move much faster than normal Poes. If you ride the horse past certain objects or areas, a Big Poe will appear. In some places, you have to ride past the object at a certain angle for the Poe to appear. To catch Big Poes, shoot them twice with your bow while riding the horse. Without wasting time, get off the horse and make sure that you have an empty bottle with you, then go up to the defeated Poe (a yellow flame with a smiley face) and press A. Normal Poes will not appear while you’re on the horse, but if you are on foot, they will appear at the same locations as the Big Poes do.

Locations of the 10 Big Poes in Hyrule Field:

1. Near the broken drawbridge of the Market, when you ride past a sign that is pointing to Lon Lon Ranch. This is not to be confused with the other sign, which is closer to the ranch.

2. Near Lon Lon Ranch, when you ride past the tree near the entrance.

3. Near a section of the river in the northwest corner of Hyrule Field (from the drawbridge, go to the right side of Lon Lon Ranch, then turn right to the river). There is a set of five of those rustling bushes near the river; ride past the one in the middle to get the Poe to appear.

4. Near the entrance to Gerudo Valley, when you ride through the junction of the paths. This Poe can be tricky to get, because it moves out of your sights very quickly. To get it, ride down the path from the direction of Lake Hylia. When the Poe appears it will rise up on the desert overhang and out of sight, but just keep going around the overhang on the path and it will drop down again to where you can shoot it.

5. Near the entrance to Gerudo Valley, riding past a tree. There’s only one tree around there when Link grows up, so this shouldn’t be confusing. Ride Northeast while doing this; if you ride south, the Poe will quickly disappear into the wall of the overhang.

6. Near the entrance to Kakariko Village, when you ride to the end of the nearby overhang. This is one of the toughest Poes to get because Epona is forced to stop by the fence at just the moment when the Poe appears, and the Poe flies behind a tree before quickly disappearing. If you’re quick enough, you can nab this one, just by riding Epona up to the end of the fenced overhang, making sure to get your bow out and cocked before she stops and the Poe appears. I’ve also read that you can back Epona into the end of the overhang, so that the Poe appears out in the field, where you can get a much clearer shot. Remember, the Poe always appears along the direction that Epona’s head is facing when you reach the end of the overhang, so keep this in mind when you get ready to aim.

7. To the east of Lon Lon Ranch, when you ride down past the tip of the V-shaped stone wall. Ride straight down one of the sides of the V to get this, but the Poe might not appear if you don’t stay as close as you can to the wall.

8. In the southern half of Hyrule Field, near a silver rock. This is the only silver rock in Hyrule Field, so you can’t miss it. Try riding north past the rock, in order to keep the Poe from disappearing into the wall or Epona from getting stuck behind the fence.

9. In the southwest corner of Hyrule Field, near a bunch of trees, when you ride through some clumps of grass. There are two clusters of grass in this area; the one I’m talking about is the one closest to the trees. Be careful not to set it up so that you end up riding through the trees while chasing the ghost.

10. In the same area as #9, ride past the gold rock (it may be just a hole in the ground if you’ve already bombed the rock), in a roughly southerly direction, so that you ride past a tree as well. The Poe will appear when you ride past the tree. You might have a little bit of trouble getting this one to appear. Just be patient and keep trying; this one can also be tricky because it runs into the wall pretty quickly. If you’re really having trouble trying to figure out which tree it is, get off of Epona and wander around the area until the a normal Poe appears. Take note of which tree you were closest to, get back on Epona, and ride past the same tree to make the Big Poe appear.
