One of the most controversial figures in recent memory, the late Mayor Beltran's political stranglehold can be felt in Seattle         even today. Beltran's decision to declare martial law following the Pulse was mirrored in cities nationwide but none could match his level of oppressive leadership.  Beltran's term was a particularly dark time for the press who often saw their 1st Amendment rights summarily dismissed. The infamous mayor's tenure finally weakened in the late teens when journalist Nathan Herrero  exposed his connection to the Liberti crime family.
