Lans began as a beat cop in New York City, before moving up to detective and, eventually, the administrative ranks of the NYPD.  Shadowed by allegations of police brutality and corruption, however, Lans accepted a job as Deputy Commissioner in Seattle, where his methods were smiled upon by the Beltran Administration. Current Mayor Leopold Steckler is a staunch supporter of Lans' rise in the SPD and backs his candidacy for Commissioner.
