That God (Page 2)

A Day Earlier

The signatures had finally come close enough to get good energy readings. They were Dreadnaughts. What was Kier's Frigate supposed to do against Dreadnaughts? Kier had only one idea, and he hoped it worked.

"Comm, record message and ready for dispatch all the Omega Drones."

"Ready, sir," Ensign Treal said, a twinge of dispair in her voice.

"Authorization Code Phi Kappa Iota, Lt. Commander Kier of the ANS Perith. I have been forced to surrender or be destroyed, I am hearby announcing Invasion Imminent, repeat, Invasion Imminent. The Capitol hs been lost, Miryth is in unknown hands... End."

Kier was sure that he saw sweat dripping off Treal's forehead as she keyed up the Drones and marked them ready. Ponth dumped the tactical data into the Drones without being told, and then they were ready. Kier hit the small blue button on the far edge of his consul and watched his sreen.

Seventeen Drones seperated from the Perith and streaked for the warp point she hadjust left only a while ago.

They didn't make it. The ten barely made it past the ship's own Drive field, the rest were picked off easily enough by those mammoth sharks lurking just out of Perith's own missile range.

"Full power to the Drive. We may get away just yet." As he spoke Kier found himself staring at 7 new signatures, all Light Cruisers. As small as the new comers were, they still out sized the little Frigate, and Kier swallowed hard. "Belay that, prepare to stand too, and send the surrender call."

He didn't want to, but those Cruisers would have smashed him if he tried to run, if the Dreadnaughts had chosen to give them the pleasure. He saw the text instructions scroll through his Comm window, and sighed as they were relayed to Nav. This was it, his entire crew and their little ship would be in enemy hands in a matter of moments. He wished scuttle charges were feasible in a ship such as his, but the room was simply not available. He was defenceless, and he knew what to do.

Kier ever so calmly opened the small compartment under his chair's armrest.

Two Days Prior

Kaff was in the flag bridge by the time the CMS History was suddenly transformed into the CNS History. This was only a change to the Ardenians though, as everyone on the History had always known she was a naval ship, not a merchant one.

Which was really no consolation, as Kaff arrived just in time to see the CNS Janis go out in a ball of incadescent fury. She had launched all her ready Pinnaces and Missiles first though, and she took the better part of an eighth of Miryth's homefleet with her.

Caithans really had nothing against the Community in general. They just had a blood oath to kill every last Priest. Kaff still didn't understand where that oath had stemmed from exactly, but she knew better than question it.

Another dozen or so Ardenian ships were snuffed out before the defenders could get out their second volley. At least twenty Ardenian Merchant ships went with them. It really wasn't Kaff's idea to take Navy and Merchant targets alike. But the beurocrats wanted no Ardenian craft left in system.

The History shook. It was only a near miss, a few sirens wailed as EMP ravaged her flank, but it did not stop the steady stream of missiles flowing from what were supposed to be normal cargo bays.

Six of her one hundred three surviving pinnaces spread in their own miniature fireballs, but the rest streaked into the planets atmosphere. They were now out of Kaff's hands.

CNS Pernacious' Dirve field suddenly droped to half strength. But that didn't really matter, surprise and superior fire power was enough for even these four, now three, vessels to defeat 4 task forces.
