Ethics

"Lord Aereth has seen fit to give each of us in the lands of Destiny our own free will. Still, there is a part of our being that guides us, a most basic flame that burns inside us all. It is the core of a person's being, it colors their outlook on life, and it defines who we are in the world around us. We may choose our own path, but our paths are lighted by our internal flame. The outcome is that each of us, on our mortal journey, will have a tendency to follow the course of one path over another. This inner urge is called our ethic and all of us mortals can be placed in one of three basic groups. Those groups are said to be Trueheart, Darkheart and Evenheart.

Each ethic having gods to look over them and even having lands in which to prosper, the ethics exist in an ongoing struggle. Trueheart and Darkheart ethics being diametrically opposed, they are locked in eternal conflict. They constantly work against each other, in an attempt to win over the other side and further their ethic to the point of extinguishing the other. At the surface, this may look like the same old eternal struggle of good versus evil, but the struggle between ethics is much more than that. As you learn more about each ethic, you will begin to see the subtle nature of this conflict and the understanding of it is likely to give you insight into the workings of your own internal flame."

Trueheart Ethic - Those of the Trueheart will work to bring prosperity and well being to all those around them. They are likely to be charitable, helping others in need. They often have a reverence for life, seeing value in all forms of creation. They tend to have a strong sense of community, and will often rally to serve the needs of their own social groups. Some devote their lives to unquestioning service of Trueheart gods and value the well being of others over themselves.

Evenheart Ethic - Those of the Evenheart ethic are the dividing line between Trueheart and Darkheart. They are not devoted to either side of the struggle, and will often side with those of both Trueheart or Darkheart, depending on the situation. They may or may not lend themselves to promoting anyone around them, as they see fit. They may or may not hold any respect for a life, depending on how they judge value in it. It is difficult to determine before-hand how an Evenheart will react to a situation, but they are likely to side with those they see as being most deserving of their allegiance. Because they judge life in an ongoing basis, they are not likely to maintain alliances without reason.

Darkheart Ethic - Those of the Darkheart are most likely to promote their own desires over the needs of those around them. They are likely to be self reliant, self absorbed and self serving. They are not likely to hold any respect for life in any form. However, there are those who devote their lives to serving others of the same ilk, even going as far as worshiping and serving Darkheart gods with unquestionable zeal.
