Electronic Voice PhenomenonWhat is EVP's? EVP's or Electronic Voice Phenomenon is the recording of voices or sounds that are not audible to the human ear. These EVP's can be obtained using a cassette recorder, video camcorder, digital recorder or reel to reel recorder. This phenomenon really took hold in the early 1960's through the many years of research by Swedish bird-watcher Friedrich Jurgenson. He had been recording bird songs in remote areas and while making one of his recordings he heard a strange garbled human voice. He was sure that there was no one around him at the time of the recording. After much study and experimenting he was successful in recording a number of extraneous voices over the next four years. He published a book in Sweden titled "Voices From the Universe. Another leading researcher in the area of electronic voices was a psychologist named Konstantin Raudive. He became inspired by Jurgenson's findings, he recorded over 100,000 voice phrases. On his recordings he has voices that speak in different languages, some are clearer than others are, some are delivered in code, and the voices are identifiable as men, women and children. He too published a book that was translated into English in 1971-titled "Breakthrough". This phenomenon has caused a great controversy some believe that the voices can be attributed to radio waves, others believe that they are natural sounds, some believe they are white sounds on the tape and still others agree that they are paranormal voices. Many groups through out the world and the United States continue to study and record these sounds. If you are interested in trying and getting your own EVP's you will need a few supplies to get started. You will need a good tape recorder of high quality that will not create a lot of back ground noise when you are taping make sure it has a built in tape counter, this helps find the phenomenon easily. You might want to keep a journal of your recordings and voices can be matched up with the tape counter to your journal entries. Also use a good high quality microphone and external one is better as an internal one is not sensitive enough to pick up these sounds. It also may pick up static from the recorder motor. Make sure the tapes you use are low noise brand new tapes. Also you may want to take along with you full ear-covering earphones but you can also use the earplug type too. You may want to have a back up recorder or two just in case and plenty of batteries. You do not have to be psychic to obtain these recordings, but you must be persistent and have a lot of patience. Now to begin, turn your recorder on and ask a question, wait a few seconds and ask another question. Make any notes of sounds that you hear, insects, birds, passing car so that they can be ruled out later. Continue in this manner until you are satisfied, then play back your tape to see what you have gotten.
