In the Distance
by: Emma Savvides

Looking back I see the shadow
Of who I used to be
In the mirror I see a repulsive reflection
That isn't really me.
In the distance I see a smile
A dream that could be mine
But I feel age creeping forward
I'm running out of time.
I wipe the rain from my face
And wonder if its really tears
The down pour of my childhood
Released after all these years.
Unleashed fears of hurt and deception
Wage war to block out my sun
I wonder who I was in a past life
What harm I may have done.
In that vast space called the distance
I see who I want to be
My expectations all fulfilled
I see a better me.
I pray to live this fantasy
For that one wish I loudly cry
My dreams in the distance are eternal
They'll live past the time I die.
