As the Tears Fall into the Rose-Coloured Water
by: Silica Weary

I sit in the sweet-smelling water,
And think of all that is,
For while I try to do my best,
I think of you and begin to cry.
So young, so innocent,
Without knowledge of the world, so naïve,
So trusting, so loving,
We never saw it coming.
We never thought hate could be so abundant,
We never once suspected
Then I heard the explosion,
And the knowledge has sorrowed me.
As the tears fall into the rose-coloured water,
Mixing with the rain and the blood,
"I love you," are the last words I hear from your lips,
As you fall into the forever sleep.
And I sit in the sweet-smelling water,
Thinking of you, as always,
And why I create this fantasy for myself,
To hide forever in from this world.
The world that took you by hate.
The world that didn’t care.
The world that needs so much.
The world I shall dedicate my life to.
For maybe if I love and nurture,
The safe haven can be re-opened,
And the children will laugh again,
And there will be song again.
So when I am gone,
My students will take my place,
Just as I followed in your ever-loving footsteps,
And I will meet you again.
And my tears fall into the rose-coloured water.
