X23
X23 (Masked)X23 (Unmasked)

Real Name: Just X23. She has no "normal" name.

Mutant Power: Superhuman regeneration ability, a superhuman sense of smell, and adamantium claws. It should be noted that unlike Wolverine, who has three claws in each hand, X23 has two claws in each hand and one in each foot. She does NOT have an adamantium skeleton, as she's still growing. She also seems to have superhuman agility, but this isn't official.

Voice Actor: Andrea Libman (for "X23"); Britney Irvin (for "Target X")

Guest Appearances: "X23"; "Target X"; "Ascension, Part 2" (very briefly)

Back Story: X23 was created by a rogue scientific agency called HYDRA. Their goal was to create the "ultimate weapon" to use against their foes- and 22 times they failed. Once they found out about the program used on Wolverine all those years ago- the "Weapon X" program- they acquired some of Wolverine's DNA and partially cloned him, with some variations. This clone was X23. She grew up in the HYDRA facility, continually trained and put through strenuous tests to hone her fighting ability- however, she was given no special care or personal attention by any of the scientists, and essentially grew up without any real affection thrown her way. At 12, she was put through the "Weapon X" process, and given her adamantium claws. The HYDRA scientists taught her how to blend in with normal people, but whenever she saw families having fun together, she started to act up, and her anger slowly grew. Finally, at age 14, she went rogue during an infiltration mission. She went to the Institute, searching for Wolverine, who she believed knew about the project used to create her and wanted to kill him for making her what she was. After she knocked the rest of the X-Men unconscious, Wolverine finally managed to subdue her and convince her that he didn't know anything about the project- and that he's the closest thing to family that she has. This caused her to break down emotionally- but before she could cry for long, some S.H.I.E.L.D. helicopters came up, hunting her down for breaking into their headquarters earlier. X23 ran off while Logan sternly told Nick Fury to leave her alone. She's currently on a mission to take out all of the HYDRA bases, since they were responsible for making her the way she is and all. She's already managed to (supposedly) take out Madame Hydra and Gauntlet. Whoa. What's interesting is that X23 is seen with the groupshot of the X-Men at the end of the "Ascension" 2-parter, even though she played no role in the episode. Has she joined the X-Men, or was that just a big group shot for the sake of a big group shot? Only time will tell... She WILL join the X-Men sometime in the future, though, as we've seen in Xavier's "future visions" in the same episode.

Personality: X23, at least on the surface, is a very cold and emotionless individual. After all, she was trained to be. Deep down, however, all she really (REALLY) wants is to be a normal kid, with her own family, and to be rid of her adamantium claws and the like. She has a slight emotional attachment to Logan, given their similarities, but she's very aggressive to anyone else.

Final Reflections: X23 was an interesting character, with a surprisingly dark background, given that she made her debut on a show intended for pre-teens. I'm not sure if I like the idea behind her creation, though- I mean, a clone of a popular character? How many times has THAT been done? Regardless, she's now moved beyond Evolution, and has now made her permanent mark as a character in Marvel's X-Men comic series, and in the comic series has actually became a somewhat popular character-- they've built on her background quite well, expanding on topics in the comics that they never could in Evo. So Evo will live on, in one way or another.
