Classics
To fill in the roughly 8-month
gap between the end of the Transformers: Cybertron
toyline and the beginning of the Live Action movie
toyline, Hasbro released a filler line called Transformers Classics,
the basic premise of which was to give the most popular Generation
One characters new, improved toys with today's technology implemented
in the toys. The most widely-released deluxe and Voyager class sizes reflect
the premise of Classics the best, but the short line also served as a catch-all
for other products Hasbro released at the same time as well. Some of the
other products released in the Classics line that weren't actually brand-new,
"updated G1" molds included repaints of Energon
and Legends of Cybertron molds as homages
to G1 characters, as well as releases of Minicon teams that were held over
from the end of Cybertron and released in the Classics line as full-fledged,
albeit tiny, Autobots and Decepticons.
The only storyline for the
Classics line whatsoever was a stint in the Transformers Collectors' Club
exclusive comic-- no official story was on the toy boxes or anywhere else.
Also of note is that the subtitle "Classics" was rather hard to find on
many of the toys, and the subtitle actually didn't exist at all on many
of the catch-all toys that were included in the line as well. The reason
for this, Hasbro explained, was that some parents and kids might mistake
the "Classic" tag to mean that they were old toy reissues.
