Cyclops
Cyclops (Normal)Cyclops (Costume)

Real Name: Scott Summers

Mutant Power: Force blasts that emit from his eyes

Voice Actor: Kirby Morrow (who also does the voice of Rad from Armada and Energon)

First Appearance: "Strategy X"

Back Story: A normal kid in his early life, Scott Summers also had a younger brother, Alex Summers. One night, however, as Scott was traveling with his family on a small airplane, a bolt of lightning struck the engine. Unfortunately, there were only enough parachutes for Scott and his brother, and, given that they were the kids, they were the only ones who escaped the plane's imminent explosion. Fire trails leapt from the explosion, however, and nearly consumed Scott's parachute. Scott hit the ground hard, and was in a coma for a month- when he woke up, the hospital personnel told him that he was the only one who made it. Fast forward about 10 years, to when Professor Xavier discovered Scott's powers using Cerebro. Scott was the first teenager to join the X-Men, after living out his later childhood in an orphanage in Anchorage, Alaska. (This part of his backstory was not given in the show, however; it was only given in the comic series. Take that as you will.) A couple months after joining the X-Men, Scott also found out that his younger brother, Alex, was still alive, and living with foster parents in Hawaii. Although Alex prefers to stay in Hawaii, he and Scott still get together every so often. At the end of Season 3, Scott graduated from High School, and has become an instructor at the Institute for the New Mutants, and will continue to be one for a while, judging from Xavier's "visions of the future" in the last episode of the series.

Personality: Scott is usually the serious type, at least partially due to his uncontrollable mutant power. He cannot control his optic blasts, and as such, has to constantly keep his eyes behind a ruby quartz visor. Obviously, seeing red all the time is not an ideal condition to be in, and he doesn't like people bugging him about it, so he doesn't really socialize that much. He's the oldest of the teenage X-Men, and this, coupled with his serious personality, makes him the ideal team leader. He can get a bit TOO stiff at times, but Nightcrawler usually lightens him up a bit. Scott and Jean Grey definitely like each other quite a bit, but they didn't become an official boyfriend/girlfriend duo until after the heart-wrenching events of "Blind Alley". Scott had a brief stint with Terran in Season 2, but he obviously wasn't that happy with it, and he informally broke up wit her.

Final Reflections: I prefer the new Scott to the old Scott, and for good reason: the old Scott was way too stiff, much more so than X-M:E Scott, and he just wasn't a very likable character for a team leader. X-M:E Scott is a bit more well-rounded and likable, while still having enough flaws so that he's not perfect. Oh, yeah, and he gets along with Wolverine better. The constant bickering between Cyclops and Wolverine in the old series got old quick, and Cyclops in Wolverine and the X-Men is way too mopey. Even though I felt he got a bit too much focus at times in the series, I'm going to miss this character.
