The Trench Lines

The trench line was poorly lit and the result of this was almost utter darkness, and there was also a thick hazy mist creeping over the edges of the trench parapets. It was almost four in the morning and the two moons of the planet had started to descend from the sky and they dimmed slowly as they continued down towards the horizon.

Along the trench line there was not a single sign of life, save for a few battle worn soldiers wandering back and forth. One in particular had spent most of the night perched up against a large parapet just on the rim of the trench. He was sitting on a wooden stool and every now and again he would make the risk of peeking over the edge of the trench to have a look at the torn lands before it.

'We need to know the name if we are to put it on your gravestone,'

Gilmore gave the stranger the finger, and he turned around again and focused on the scratches along the parapet wall.

'Only kidding, just watch yourself and remember, they have long range weapons good enough for sniping, which means they can stay out of the drone guns range, remember that,' said the stranger before walking off down the trench.

Gilmore thought for a second about the drone guns, he was right,
