Part 1
Liz, Maria, Alex, Max, Michael and Isabel walked down the hall together. It was the only class that they all had together. It was funny, Economics was usually the class most people wanted to split on, but they liked going because they all seen each other there and they liked being around each other, without being watched or chased. Just being normal High School Kids was fun.
They walked into the class and took their assigned seats. Max two seats away from Alex, Isabel across from Liz and Michael behind Maria. All enjoying their teacher hustle into the class with a stupid smile on her face. This was not good. The only time Mrs. Norman put on that smile was when she was going to assign them something they all would regret.
"Okay class, we're going to have some visitors. Well, actually you all will be having visitors. Visitors for three days. I will need to know if they will be able to stay with you for those three days." She passed out the permission slips. "I need to know everything you can tell me so I would like you to fill these forms out right now. And then we can discuss the project."
Maria immediately took a look at the slip Mrs. Norman had passed them. 'Oh no, no, no. I can so not do this.' "Mrs. Norman do you think this is, what's the right word, oh yes, sane? I mean 11 year olds. They are like little kids and three days? No, this is so not acceptable for a project." Maria placed her arms across her chest and put on a pout. Michael who sat behind her put on a smirk and let out a light chuckle. Maria whipped her head around. "You think this is funny? This is not funny this is cruel education at it's worst!" "Yeah but it is funny." "Ugh!"
"Well, Mrs. DeLuca, either you do this project or you fail. I want all of you to deliver these permission slips to your parents ASAP or else." "Mrs. Norman?" "Yes Mr. Guerin." "Can I like talk to you about this situation?" "What for?" "For the slip Mrs. Norman." "Fine speak." "Actually it's kinda private." "Fine, come up here and tell me." Michael got up from his seat and caught Maria stick her tongue out at him like she was a 11 year old herself.
"Yes, Mr. Guerin how can I help you?" "Well, I live alone." "What?" "I don't have a parent to sign this." "And why not?" "State gave me custody of myself. I live alone." "And your problem?" "Well, does the kid stay with me or not." "Does anybody ever come over to your place?" "Well, um...just friends and sometimes their parents." "Well, are these friends appropriate?" "Yeah." "Then I don't see the problem." "You think the kid's parent's is gonna let that kid come stay with some High School kid who lives alone?" "Actually yes. But we'll have to ask all the parents first." "So I'm gonna have to have an 11 year at my house for three days." "Yes, that is it." "Right." "You can go back to your seat now."
Michael sauntered back to his seat. Maria turned around to face him. "So what did she say?" "What? How do you know what I asked her? You couldn't hear us could you?" "No, but the only time you say situation is when you refer to your new place." "Oh." "Well, what did she say?" "She said that I still get stuck with a kid." Maria let out a payback laugh. "That's what you and your smart ass get." And she turned around to face the teacher again.
"Class are all of your papers filled out?" An echo of yes rang through the classroom. "Good. Now I would like you all to pair up into these groups when I call your names." She walked to her desk and picked up a slip of paper. "Move your desks into six please." The class did as asked. "Okay stand against the wall with your stuff and I'll tell you where to be seated. Table 1: Mitchell, Davis, Bradley, Crawfield, Marcus and Melconver; Table 2: Freedman, Jackson, Donald, Conely, Gregon and Frack; Table 3: Guerin, DeLuca, Parker, Whitman, I. Evans and M. Evans; and finally Table 4: Valenti, Honley, Troy, Anderson, Berkly and Philips." The teacher walked back to her desk in the front of the classroom.
"You are all in these groups because these are friends that you hang out with regularly. I know this from observations on how you enter my class and seeing you at lunch and games. So the people in your group are the people you go to for help, and so forth. The children more then likely will be set up in this order or by family. Which ever, but I can assure you that the children you get tomorrow will be based on your records." An echo of grunts spread through the classroom. "Yes, class your records." The bell to lunch rang. "I want those slips tomorrow or I'll just call your parents. Oh, Mr. Guerin I want to speak to you a moment.
"Okay Mr. Guerin for the parent signature I want you to get one of your friends parents to sign yours, telling me that your responsible enough, okay?" "Yeah sure. Thanks." Michael walked out of the class where everybody else was waiting. "So what did Hitler herself want?" "Maria Mrs. Norman is not that mean." "Okay Liz. Anyway what did she say?" "Just asked me to get like someone else to sign my slip." "Oh right. Well, I'm hungry lets get to lunch." "Your always hungry." "I am not." "Yes you are." "No I'm not." "Sure whatever you say Ms. DeLuca." "Michael take it back I'm not a pig!" "Your right you look more anorexic." "Take that back!" Maria said hitting him in the arm. The others just looked at their pitiful friends and left to the lunch area leaving them bickering in the hall.
Michael and Maria finally stopped fighting. Michael hung back against the wall as he watched Maria calm down from her spaz. "So how do you think your mom would feel about signing my slip?" "Are you serious?" "Yes. Completely." "Well, then I'll take you to my place this afternoon since I don't have to work until later and you can ask her." "Fine, sounds good to me." Michael walked up to Maria slung his arm around her shoulder and they both walked to the lunch area.

The next day...
"Wow. Michael you actually got Maria's mom to sign it." "Yes. What is so hard to believe about that?" "Doesn't she like hate you?" "No, Isabel Maria's mom does not hate me. She just isn't sure of me." "So much better." "Will you two stop already. Lets just get to class and deal with this after the weekend okay?" "Whatever." On their way in they saw Liz and Alex laughing over something. "Hey guys. Ready for the attack of dwarfs?" "Not really." "Oh well." "So where's Maria?" "Don't know." "She'll be here. Probably just was to excited about everything." "Sure she was." Maria came skidding down the hall and stopped as fast as she could before she ran into her friends, but failed miserably.
"Well, it's nice to see you too, Maria." Michael said sarcastically. "Now would you mind getting off of me?" "Oh God. I'm so sorry, but there were these guys and they so wouldn't leave me alone and..." "Who was it?" "Don't worry Michael they won't be messing with me anytime soon." "Maria? What did you do to them?" "I did only what they deserved Liz." "Maria haven't you learned. I mean didn't you stop fighting with guys in 6th grade." "I did. I just do it only when they deserve it and they deserved it." "Fine. We should be getting to class now, the bells gonna ring any minute."
They all sat at the tables they had been assigned to that had now added six more desks around the table. "Great today we get stuck with the munchkins from hell." Commented Michael. Maria turned to him and in a low enough voice that only the six people at their table could here. "How do you know their from hell they could be from outer space." Laughter erupted from Alex and Isabel and Liz and Max tried hard not to laugh but smiled. Michael just looked at Maria with his usual scowl. Maria sat back happy that she made Michael mad for the moment.
Table 1 brought back some quiet looking kids that looked like good students. Table two the same. The it was their turn, they all got up and walked to the lunch area. There were only about 12 kids left since only 24 have been brought. "Table 3: Guerin, DeLuca, Parker, Whitman, I. Evans and M. Evans." "Okay. Marion, Edwards, Chirstin, Jordan and Hill! Over here now!" Six kids from around the quad turned their heads and began walking towards them.
There was a small girl with shoulder length, brown hair. There was a boy with a brown hair and harmless look written on his face. A girl with long, straight dirty blonde hair in two pig tails. A boy with dark brown hair and glasses. A taller boy with a blonde hair that stuck out slightly from his head. And a girl with long medium brown hair, curls dangling from the her head as it bopped back and forth. Michael, Maria, Isabel, Alex, Max and Liz knew exactly which one they'd get stuck with.
"Guerin, Chirstin; DeLuca, Marion; Parker, Hill; Whitman, Jordan; I. Evans, E. Edwards; and M. Evans, D. Edwards. Now that you know your partners last name, I'll give you this list in case you forget who you get. You may go back to the class. I'll see you Monday kids." All 12 of them walked out of the quad and into the hall.
"So your Nicky Chirstin?" "Yes." "Okay and your Mario Marion?" "Yep. The one and only." "And lets hope it stops at that." "Shut you weasel." "Make me!" "Okay will you two just stop for five minutes please!" Both kids hushed. "Okay what are your names?" "Mine's David Edwards and this is my sister Elyse." "I'm Andrea Hill." "Andrew Jordan." "So it seems the only mistake was with us Maria." "Yeah we need to go tell Mrs. Norman." "What's the problem? Nothing's wrong is it?" "No, we just got a mix up. See I'm Michael Guerin and this is Maria DeLuca." "I'm not staying with a boy." "They probably figured that dork." "Bite me." "I don't know what I could get." "Shut up!" "Will you two be good? We all have to stay with these teenagers and we should be good." "Hush Andrea, this is not your business." "Don't yell at her Mario. I'll kick your butt!" "Come on you two we need to go get this straightened out."
"But Mrs. Norman do you think the mother would want their little girl staying alone in an apartment with a teenage boy?" "You aren't going to do anything are you?" "Of course not!" "Then you have nothing to worry about. Her father said that it was fine." "Her father? What about her mother?" "She jetted like 5 years ago." Michael turned and looked at the girl sympathetically. She really was like him and Maria. And it seemed the boy was too. "What about the little boy?" "He lives with his single mother and is used to girls." "So there's nothing we can do?" "Well, if it bothers you that much I'm sure that she can stay at night at Ms. DeLuca's and visa versa." "Fine."
