Promise Kept in Air

Part 2

Maria was shocked beyond belief. Max and Alex were right behind her and when they saw her hit the floor they rushed to the her when the word that was spoken spilled out of her mouth. 'Michael' what did she mean?

Michael looked down at the now quiet angle in his arms. She was so beautiful. Just as beautiful as her mother. She had his eyes, minus the dark cold stare. No, her stare was heavenly. "Maria." "My God I thought...I thought you would stay gone longer. Why...why did you come back Michael?" "Maria. Do you really have to ask that question?" Maria stood up back with Max, Alex and the now joined Liz, Isabel and Diane about five feet behind her.

She walked up towards Michael. "So this is our child?" "Yes." "She's very beautiful just like her mother." "Michael." Maria began to cry and Michael did what he had wanted to do since he left, held her. He held the love of his life and their child.

"Michael I was so afraid that you wouldn't..." "Shhhh. I didn't." "Thank God you came back." "I know." Michael swept Maria into his arms. "God I missed you so much." "Me too." "Momma this is my daddy huh?" Maria looked down at the child that was held in both hers and Michael's arms. "Yes baby that's your daddy." She just smiled her widest smile at both her parents. Maria let go of Michael when Isabel had sneezed.

"I'm so sorry I didn't mean to break the moment. Really I didn't ." Maria turned to face the very sorry Isabel. She knew she meant it just by looking into her eyes. Maria took a step back from Michael and looked at him took a good look at him. He'd changed drastically but not at all, like her. God what were they 22, 23, they looked so tired. He still had his spiky hair but he seemed so much older. He no longer looked like a high school boy, no boy anymore.

God she had changed over the years her hair, she let it grow out. It was past her shoulders and it was still it's perfect golden color. She didn't look like a high school girl no she was a mother and a damn good one at that. Yeah she knew what she was doing and she was doing it well he just wished that they hadn't held him as long as they did. Now he felt horrible he just came back to take them away, away from everything that they loved. Away from all their friends and family members.

Maria saw the change in Michael's eyes. No, that was not a good change that was a bad change. She walked up to Michael and he handed her their child. His heart broke but he had to do what they had sent him to do. "Michael?" He turned his eyes to meet his precious love. 'God why did they have to send me, why does it have to be me?'

"Maria." "No. You can't. She's mine Michael." "Maria." "No!" Maria broke down into tears. How had she known what he was going to tell her. "No! I'm her mother Michael. I love her." "Maria don't..." "Don't tell me not to Michael. She's all I had and have. You can't Michael, you just can't." "Michael what are you intending on doing?" "I'm doing my job. Isabel, Max you two, Diane and Samantha have to come with me." Isabel was frozen in Alex's arms. She wasn't leaving him, no she wasn't not in her condition. Max clang to Liz and Diane. No, he was not leaving Liz alone, he wasn't taking Diane away from her. He loved her to much. Maria sat on the floor, her sobs subsided. If she had to for Samantha's sake, she'd let her go. She'd hand her over to her father. She would do it if she had to, yeah she would.

Michael looked around the room his face saddened. He didn't want to be the one to do this to them. No, he didn't, he'd begged for them to send another, but they insisted that he go. He looked at his best friends faces and his heart ached. But when his eyes met those of Maria's his pain turned to fear. She was going to do it without a anymore fighting. She was going to give away Samantha to him. Why? Because she trusted him, a fatherly trust is what she was holding him to.

Maria stood with Samantha in her arms she walked up to Michael smiled a faint smile and handed him Samantha. All the people who were watching her almost cracked into a million pieces. How could she give away the only thing that she loved anymore, other then Michael? "Take care of her. Real good care of her." "I will." "I trust you will. Please go, before I change my mind." Michael looked Maria dead in the eyes. She was serious.

"Maria! No don't do this!" Maria stood strong not shedding a tear. She didn't turn to her best friend's faces it would hurt to much. "I have to." "No Maria you don't...He has no right..." Maria grew angry, 'no right' he was her father, loved her just as much, if not more. Maria swung her head and body around to face to very angry women.

"He has every right!" "Maria?" "He's her father. He has every right in the world. I don't want her to grow up without a father, she deserves to have one. And Michael is hers and he loves her. Nothing will happen to her, NOTHING!" Michael's heart broke. He had to finish his job. He hadn't wanted to do this to any of them. None of them deserved this pain.

"Liz? Alex? Are you willing?" "What?" "Are you willing to let them leave now and forever? Are you willing to do what I did and hold in all my pain and give them their hearts desire?" "Maria?" "Are you?" Liz turned to the small baby her and Max were cradling then she turned her head upwards. She stared into his deep, soulful eyes. Was she willing? She turned to face Maria, what happened to her friend she wasn't the same weak and scared high school girl she had known, no she was grown up. She was more grown up then she ever would be. She blinked away the tears that were starting to appear in her eyes.

"Yes." Maria smiled at Liz. *Yeah Liz good.* "Alex?" "What?" "Are you willing?" "If I had to, yeah." Maria brought both her hands up and clasped them over her mouth. She took them away quickly and spoke. "Leave. Isabel leave Alex. Max take Diane and leave. Leave now. You'll be back, I know it. Leave now."

A strong feeling came over Max and Isabel. Alex and Liz took a step back from their soul mates. Maria turned to face a smiling Michael. "Thank You. Thank You Maria." Michael whispered to Maria as the same feeling came over him once again. He looked down at the beauty in his arms she seemed to be shaking ever so lightly but he felt it.

Max, Diane, Isabel, Michael and Samantha all began to fade. They were just dissolving in front of Alex, Liz and Maria. But Maria felt no heart ache this time she was over joyed with happiness. She had made Michael's dream come true, if only she herself could be apart of it.

Michael and the others were gone, not forever. No, their was a promise there. They would be back. When Maria, Liz and Alex still had no idea but they would be back. It was the promise left in the air. Yeah they'd come back. And they would never forget each other.
