Part 4:

Two years later....

"Come on Michael! I don't wanna do that!" "Just do it! I swear, I'm right here." "Okay, fine, whatever. So, I just throw this..." "With your mind." "WITH my mind and hit the board?" "Yep." "Okay, I'm so gonna beat you at this." Maria squinted her eyes and the dart went fling across the room and landed bullseye. "Hah! I did it! Michael I did it!" Maria jumped up and down and then jumped into Michael's arms, a smile shining brightly on her face.

"Yes you did." Maria blushed and climbed out of Michael's arms. They both heard a cough and shot thier eyes to the door. "Hello." "What do you want?" Maria asked rather harshly. "Down girl, I'm just here to let you know that the king wishes to see you." "Who Kalinvo? What the hell does he want?" Michael sneered. "You two will be escorted down to the King's courters and him and his wife will be meeting you there.

"Well, get out! I have to change." "Him?" "Michael lives here, you don't you sleeze ball so get the hell out!" The younger guard smirked and shut the door. "Maria, calm down. Go change." "Yea whatever you say master Michael." Maria stomped off and grabbed her clothes and headed into the changing room. She walked out in her bra and shorts. "Michael?" Michael turned around and his eyes went wide.

"Which outfit should I wear?" She held up the first one. "Black?" She held up the other one. "Or silver?" Michael coughed. "Uh, sliver." "Okay thanks!" Maria hopped back into the bathroom. "God." He muttered and threw a black shirt over his head. He was slipping on his boots when Maria walked out in her silver jump suit." "Michael. You can't wear that you know." "Why not?" "Because, you have to wear..." "I can wear a suit. That's what this is. Guys are allowed to wear suits." "Oh fine then asswipe. I was just trying to help you."

"Like you could." "Shut up you dweeb. You know you couldn't exsist without me. I'm your everything." "Very funny Maria. Just brush you hair so we can go." "What about your mess?" "My hair is not a mess. It's perfectly fine." "Yea, if you just stuck your finger in a light socket." "Very cute. Now comb your hair, we gotta leave soon." "Okay." Maria walked over to her vanity and brushed her long hair back into sloppy pony tail. "Your wearing your hair like that?" "No, you'll see."

Maria walked off into the bathroom. She came out five minutes later. "Okay headband, headband..." Maria muttered to herself. Michael turned around to look at her. "What the hell!?" Maria turned to him. He walked up to her and ran his hand through her hair. "Dammit, why'd you go and cut it off, it was finally long." "It looks better this way Michael." "But it was prettier to me long." "You can live. I'll let it grow out again. But it's getting hot lately and..." "And you want it short. Yea you say that every summer." "WELL, then it shouldn't be to big a surprise should it?" "I wasn't expecting it."

Michael walked back over and picked up his ID necklace. He also picked up a box. "Here." He handed to Maria. "What's in it?" "Open it." "Oh, yea, right!" Maria quickly opened the box. "Wow! It's so pretty Michael!" She took out the sliver pendant. "Come here." Maria walked over to Michael. "Let me see it." She handed it to him. He undid it and clipped it around her kneck. He turned her around with his hands. "Now your mine."

Maria laughed and playfully punched him. "So protective! So male!" Maria walked up to the door. "Come on, they're probably waiting out there for us." Michael nodded and walked up behind Maria. He slipped his arm around her shoulders and the door clicked open and they walked out to face three big guards. "This way."

They followed the guards down the halls they hadn't been down in two years. "It looks so different." "Yea." Michael agreed. The guards stopped in front of a set of double doors. "You may enter." The doors swung open and the guards looked at the smiling Maria and smirking Michael. "Yea, I suppose we can." Michael muttered stepping into the room. They spotted Kalinvo standing next to Zion by the other wall.

"Long time no see eh?" Maria muttered. "You two have grown up." Zion said. "Like you actually care, you left us in that one large minaswell be a park room for two years. Do you know what it's like to have one window and it shows everything bad that's happening outside through it. You just left us." "I'm sorry we did that, but it was for the best. You don't have to go back there." "What?" Michael said harshly.

"Your being released. The war has ended, everyone will be living outside again. The aliens, us, we will only be allowed to reside in these parts. Arizona, New Mexico and some of Texas. We can't go any further. Some of the humans will be released further, but we have to stay within these limits. It's safest. The humans cannot start war with us, it was agreed and some more stuff happened, but I won't go into detail." "So, we're just free to go?" "You may live in one place. It's a town, some humans will live there, but you will be only allowed there, nowhere else."

Maria sighed. "Where exactly?" "Roswell, New Mexico." "Wonderful! I get to go home to where the fucking shit started. And I have to stay there." Maria sighed. "When do we get to leave? And how will we support ourselves?" "You will be given possesions, you will live in a shared apartment, you will work at a local resturant and you will be happy I suppose." "We have to stay together?" "You don't want to?" "Of course we do! But if we wanted, could we leave and get different homes?" "You could, after a 6 month period, but it'll probably be best if you live together."

"Whatever. I want to go now." "The plane is waiting outside. I will show you the way." Michael and Maria were walked out and climbed into the plane. "There'll be people you may have known living in Roswell. Have fun, be safe and stay the way you are." Zion climbed out and watched the plane leave.

"They hate us Kalinvo." "They will forgive us later, they will Zion. Do not fear, everything will be okay." "I hope so." "To bad, to bad they have no idea what to expect."

Part 5:

When we got there we stepped out of the plane and we stood in the middle of the desert. The pilot handed us a set of keys to a little red jetta and apparently the keys to our new home said that the map to town and our house was in the car. He said five miles up and we'd be within our limits. He said we were barely in them now. He nodded and flew the plane away. We both got into the car and Michael drove. He said they'd taught him how. You ask me, he drives erractically.

We got there about a half hour later. Inside our small apartment was a note telling us to take the two cards we had to the Crashdown Cafe and that was where we were to work. It's kinda funny, cause you'd think people would get to wear what they want right? Nope same outfits, either silver, black or blue. I wear silver, Michael black. We get to the 'Crashdown Cafe' in record time I swear Michael needs to learn how to drive better.

As we enter the cafe I swear I notice someone whose vaguely familiar to me. A tall brunette walks up to us. "Hi, can I help you?" "We're new here, told to drop by." "Well, my name's Liz and the owner is the one you'll have to consult about that." Liz smiled at us. It clicked. "Oh my God!" Liz looked quizzically at me. "You okay?" "Liz! Michael it's Liz! THE LIZ!" Michael's eyes grew wide and he looked at me as if I were crazy.

A girl with blonde curls slightly over her shoulders ran out to see the comotion. "Liz everything okay?" Michael's eyes darted to the girl and my eyes welled with tears. "Do I know you two?" She asked us politely. "Yes. Yes, you do." Michael said. "Are you sure?" "Yes, Tess I'm very sure." She looked at Michael and I think it clicked for her. She jumped into his arms and tears streamed down her face. "My God Michael! They said you were dead!" She embraced him, as well as Liz and the others ran out and they were all hugging Michael and I stood back.

It wasn't my place right then and there. I didn't belong with them. "Michael, we thought they sent you to war. They said they sent you and that girl to war. They told us that." It hurt when she said 'that girl' but I was okay. I was strong. "They said that!? They lied. They kept us in a room alone for two years." "Wow, I thought I'd never see you again. Why are you here?" "We got jobs here." "We?" "Maria and I." "The girl?" "Yea, Maria?" Michael turned and looked at me and I stood at least eight feet away from them.

He looked at me quizzically. "Come here." He said. Everyone in the group seemed to have their eyes on me. I slowly walked forward. "Maria?" "The one and only I know." I said smirking. "Wow, you like grew up too." "Your hair is still short." I laughed and Michael grunted. "It wasn't this mourning. She cut it. It was long and down her back, but NOoo she wanted it short cause it's to hot for long hair." "Oh whah, I do it every summer Michael. Besides didn't we already have this discussion this mourning when I cut it off?" "It still doesn't make it right." "You aren't always gonna get your way yah know." "You wanna bet?"

"Wow." We stopped fighting and turned to everyone else. "What?" Michael asked. "You guys are pretty close huh?" "We haven't had anybody for two years but each other, I guess yea we're pretty close." "Right. Michael, where are you staying? I want you to stay with us. We all share this big apartment and I want you there with us." Tess said to Michael. "I uh already gotta place." "Really? I don't want you to live alone though Michael, I want to get to know you again. We've all changed. I want you to be my brother again." "I'm not living alone Tess. And I will always be your brother."

Tess looked sharply at me and I went back to standing eight feet away from them all. "Your gonna be living with her huh?" "Tess..." "No. Why are you going to live with her instead of your family?" "It's not his fault!" Tess growled and looked at me. "Kalinvo, I mean the King and his Queen want us to live together for the first six months. After that, he can live with you. I don't know why they made the rule if they knew you guys were here though, he should be with his family." I said very quickly. I didn't want Michael's family to hate him.

"Oh. Well, I'm sorry Michael. I am. I just wish you could live with us." "I'm sure he could spend a couple nights there." I said again. Michael turned and looked at me with pain in his eyes, and I know mine matched his. "You think? Michael that would be great! You got a job here right? Come on let's go get you signed in then." Tess dragged a very reluctant Michael to the back to sign him in. Everyone went back after Tess except Liz.

She walked up and over to me. "Don't you have to work here too?" "Yes." "Come on, I'll show you what you have to do." "Thanks." Liz walked me to the back and showed me where I was supposed to put everything and how I was supposed to do everything. "Thanks again." "It wasn't a problem. I'm sorry for how everyone, especially Tess, treated you today. But, she hasn't seen him, we haven't seen him for two years and you've been with him the entire time. She's jealous." "I know. It doesn't bother me, I'd be the same way if I had family."

Liz smiled and then she frowned. "If? Where is your family?" "Dead. They died the first day. They deserved it though, so..." "How can you be that way towards them?" "They killed the first aliens. They started the war. I have to blame them, it's how I exsist knowing they aren't alive." "Oh. Well, I guess you just changed and you start work, it's usually Tess who does this, so..." "Yea, gotcha. Thanks." Liz turned and walked out of the lobby and I fell back onto the couch.

Tess walked in happily and walked over to the buggies putting Michael's name on one of them. She turned and I think it was the first time she notice me. "Why are you here?" "I work here too." "You do?" "Yes." "Oh, well, I don't have time to..." "Liz already helped me, thanks anyway." I wasn't gonna be rude. I was gonna be steady and calm. I was gonna remain calm. "Oh, well that's good." Tess started to walk back out to the front. "I'm glad he's back with his family and I won't try to keep him from you."

Tess turned around and glared at me. "You couldn't keep him from me." "I won't try." "You'd better not, he's my brother and he's back where he belongs, with his family." "I know." "You'd better. I love him, more then myself. He's my only brother." "I know Tess. I tried to get you to him or him to you, they wouldn't do it." "What?" Her voice seemingly softened a little. "They wouldn't give that to me. They wouldn't give him back or bring you to him. I didn't want to keep him from you." "Sure." "I didn't Tess, he's your brother like you said. I can't compare to that. He talked about how he missed you, all of you all the time. He loves you all."

Tess smiled. She turned and she walked away. I sat on the couch and brought my legs up to my chest. "He loves you all so much." I let a single tear drop from my eye. I couldn't compare to them. He'd want to live with them, they were his family. I went and I changed into my uniform and walked out into the front to take orders. "Maria, can you take the trash out?" I turned to the smirking Tess and nodded. She wasn't gonna like me anytime soon.

I walked back into the back and took the trash out. "How you like work Maria?" I turned around when I was walking back into the front and faced Michael. "It's fine." "I'm sorry, you know that Tess kinda dragged me away." I plastered a fake smile onto my face. "It's not a big deal Michael, I'm so happy for you. I have to get out there though." I walked into the front and went and took a couple peoples orders. Rush hour came and went and it was closing time.

"Michael, will you be staying over tonight. I really want you too." Tess said with a grin. "I'm not sure, I mean I still have to get situated." "Well, I mean Michael come on, you just got back. WE all want to know how you've been." "Yea, okay, but I have to drop Maria off." "I'm sure she can make it home by herself Michael." "She can't drive Tess. I have to drive her, I don't want her walking this late. Give me directions to your place." Tess sighed and wrote down the directions and handed them to Michael.

He kissed her cheek told them all he'd see them in a little bit and walked out with me. I climbed into the passengers seat and Michael into the drivers. "I could have walked Michael." "I didn't want you to, and I want to talk to you." "Talk away." "Come on Maria, don't be like that." "Michael it doesn't bother me, I'm glad your back with your family okay." "No it's not okay! I consider you my family too!" I let a tear slip down my cheek and turned away from him and stared out the car window.

We pulled up in front of the apartment, I climbed out of the car and slammed the door behind me. Michael stomped out behind me. "Maria! Maria will you wait!" I stopped and turned to him with tears staining my cheeks. "God dammit! Why can't you just..." "Just what Michael? I'm happy for you, I truly am. I'm glad about it okay. Leave it at that." "I can't. Maria, I can't leave it at that." "Well, your just gonna have to." I turned away from him and walked up the stairs and opened the door.

He followed me and grabbed some clothes. "I'll see you tomorrow." He said as he shut the door and walked out. I walked over to the door and locked it. I leaned my head against the frame and cried my heart out. Why did it have to be this way? I walked away after about an hour of standing by where he left and went and unpacked all our stuff. Put everything away. By the time I was done, it was almost light out. I sat down on the couch and leaned my head back, I closed my eyes and slowly went to sleep.

Part 6:

When I woke up, I was lying on a couch and covered with a blanket. I sat up and rubbed my eyes. I looked around the house and didn't recognize it. I looked at one of the chairs and found Max and Liz alseep together, on the floor lay Isabel and Alex and in another chair Kyle. I stood up careful not to wake anyone else up. I walked into a room and found Tess and Michael sitting in opposing chairs. I remained quiet and listened to their conversation.

"Tess, she's not like that trust me." "Michael, you don't know." "Tess, I lived with her for two years I do know." "But she's not nice." "Why do you say that?" "She was rude to me. She doesn't like me." "Tess." "I'm not lying Michael. She doesn't like me. She doesn't want you near us." "I don't believe that." "It's the truth. I want you to come and live here with us as soon as you can." "I don't know." "What do you mean? We're family." "Tess..." "No, Michael you should be with your family, not some girl you saved two years ago." "She's not just some girl Tess, she's special."

Tess snickered. "Sure she is." "No, she is. She isn't human, but she's not like us. She got the best of both. When a girl, like us, named Nebula died, she passed whatever it was that made us tick into her. She is destined for something great supposedly." "Who says?" "The King and his wife. They're the ones who put us in that room." "Why did you go?" "It wasn't like I wanted to go at the time Tess, but they said you were okay with it. They had me convinced. I don't think they had her convinced though cause she demaded for hours they let me out or bring you to me."

"That's true?" "Yes." "Oh, well Michael I love you though. I want my only brother to live with me. I wanted it to just be family right now. I didn't want her here today. I don't know why you went back and got her." "Tess, she hasn't been alone for two years, can you imagine what it would be like to be alone for the first time in a long time in a new strange place?" "Can you imagine what it's like to have someone horn in on your time with your family?"

Michael sighed and put his head in his hands. I walked away slowly after that. I didn't want to listen anymore. I had to leave. I walked and grabbed my shoes and was on my way out the door when someone stopped me. "Where are you going?" I turned to face Liz. "Uh, out. I mean home. I'm going home. I don't know how I got here and I still have some...stuff I have to do." "Well, it can wait. Stay." "No, I don't think that's the best idea. Tell Michael that I went home. I'll talk to you later Liz." I smiled and walked out the door and walked quickly home.

I reached mine and Michael's apartment and opened the door and locked it and sat down. I walked into the bathroom and got in the shower and changed. I brought my hands up and made the tears streaks and blood shot eyes disappear and walked into the kitchen to get something to eat. As I was looking through the fridge there was a big loud crash and I jumped. Michael came storming into the kitchen.

"Why the hell did you leave?!" I stared at him shocked. "I brought you there for a reason Maria! I didn't want you home alone! Do you understand that?!" I opened my mouth to say something but no sound came out. "Why the hell did you fucking leave?!" New tears began to fall. "I wasn't welcome there Michael." "What are you talking about?!" "Tess, I uh heard you two talking, I know Tess doesn't want me there, she doesn't want me near you. It's probably best if that happens, you know we keep our distance." Michael ground his teeth together. "Maria, quite being so damn high!"

I jumped again. "Tess is my sister and I love her, but I love you too okay?!" More tears fell from my eyes and I cried harder. Michael grabbed me by my arm roughly and I let out a small yelp in pain. He brought me out into the living room and told me to put my shoes on. I did and he dragged me out of the house and made me get in the car. He drove very fast to Tess's home and climbed out, pulling me out also. I was still crying when he walked into the house and shouted for Tess.

Tess came running out to greet him with a smile on her face that soon faded when she saw him. "Michael?" "I want you to see this! I want you to see what we've all done to her!" I could see Tess as she winced. She looked over at me and her eyes were wide. I know I looked like shit. My hair was still wet, I had on a black jump suit. I never wore the black ones. I had on my boots and my face had to look horrible since I had been crying for a long time. "I want you to see what you've cause her by being the way you have been towards her."

"I didn't do that Michael." "Tess, you did." "No I didn't! She's the one! She's the one who did it all!" Liz and everyone by now had run out to see what was going on. I could see Liz and she looked horrifed. Michael tightened his grip on me unconiously and I cried out in pain. He let me go and I fell to the ground. "Oh my God, Maria." He bent down next to me and picked me up and held me. My eyes closed and everything thing went dark.

"No, no Maria wake up. Wake up! Dammit wake up!" Tess walked over to Michael and placed a hand on his back and Michael flinched. "We have to get her in a cold bath, with ice." Michael looked up at Liz. "Max, Alex go get ice out of the freezer and put it in buckets. Michael come with me." Michael carried Maria up the stairs and placed her into the cold water as Liz and Isabel poured the ice into the water.

"Why isn't she waking up?" "You have to give her time. She's in shock." "Shock?" "Yes." Liz sighed and walked back out into the hall. Tess watched Michael brush Maria's short hair off her forehead. "You love her?" "Very much." Tess choked back a sob. "More than me?" Michael turned and looked at his sister. "I love her in an entirely different way then I love you." Tess smiled, tears shining in her eyes. "Tess, she's all I've had, she's mine." He turned back to Maria and brought his lips to her forehead. "Come on princess."

I woke up once more on a couch, this time covered in at least ten blankets. I tried to sit up, but it was an impossible task and then everything from before came back to me. How mean Michael had been acting towards Tess and me. How much I had been crying. The look on everyone's face. Everything going dark. "Oh God." I whispered. But it didn't go unheard. Liz and Michael were by my side in an instint. "Maria?" "I know my name thank you very much, can you please fucking take all these blankets off me? It's hot." I whined.

Michael quickly stripped me of the blankets and I realize I was only in bra and underwear. I pulled one back down. "One won't hurt." I whispered. Liz smiled at me. "You gave us a scare." "Yes, you did." Tess said walking up behind Michael and Liz. "Sorry." I muttered sinking low into the couch. "I think we should get you home yah?" I nodded to Michael. "Yea." "Don't let her get wrilled up at all, she could pass out again. Okay?" Liz said to Michael. "Got it." Michael bent down and with one blanket covering me carried me out to the car.

"Michael? I can walk." "I know, but you shouldn't be." "Well, thanks." I said sarcastically. He just sighed and sat me in the passengers seat. He climbed into the drivers seat and drove us home. "You were out for about ten hours Maria." "That long huh?" I said smirking. "It's not funny, you scared me to death." "Why?" "Why?! God, don't play trasparent with me, you know I need you." He muttered and kep his eyes on the road. "Now." I whispered. I turned away from him and looked out the car window until we got home.

Part 7:

Michael carried me up the stairs even though I told him I would walk, again. He laid me down on the couch and stood back. I stood up and walked away. He watched after me confused. I walked back out to see him sitting on the couch, head in hands. Muffled noises could be heard. "Michael?" He turned towards me, eyes slightly red. "What?" I stiffened at his tone of voice. "I just had to put some clothes on...I'm sorry." I walked up behind him and took him in my arms so he could cry.

"I thought I lost you Maria, and the last thing you'd know of me was that I hurt you. I was so scared of that." He gulped and a few more sobs escaped him. "Shhh. Just let it out okay. I'm okay, you need to be okay." A silent tear rolled down my cheek and I cried silently with him. He never cried, he'd never cried. Except when he was taken from his family. He cried then. I don't think he knows I know, but he did. He laid behind me and comforted me as I cried and he cried too.

He stopped crying and looked up at me. "Oh God, see I've made you cry again." I shook my head. "Yes, I did." "No, Michael. No you didn't." I rested my forehead against his forehead and our tears mixed together. "I'm sorry." "So am I." "You don't have anything to be sorry about Maria." "I made YOU cry, that's enough." "No you didn't." "Don't lie to me. It's okay, I know." After that everything seemed to stop. I don't know why but it did.

I leaned in, Michael leaned in and we met in the middle. His lips capturing mine and his tongue sliding into my mouth. It felt like we were the only two in the world that mattered at that exact moment. It was just us and only us. No one else. We broke apart, after what seemed like hours, gasping for air. "Wow." I whispered against his lips. "Yea." He agreed with me.

All of a sudden Michael pulled away from me. "Oh God, dammit!" I looked fearfully at him. "That shouldn't have happened." "What?" "Your vulnerable. You don't know what your doing." "Yes I do." "No, Maria. You don't, your lonely and you want comfort and you don't know what your doing. Just forget that ever happened." Michael stood up and walked out of the living room. I never hurt so much at once. How could he think that? How could he be like that? Did he not like me? Oh God, I just made a complete fool of myself.

I stood up and walked to where Michael had gone. "Do you look at me like that Michael?" He shot around stared wide eyed at me. "What?" "Do you think of me like that, or do you think of me as a sister type." "Maria..." "No, do you. It's easy yes or no." He looked at me, stared me straight in the eyes. "No." I stared at him the entire time. "Okay." I choked back a sob and walked back into the living room.

He could have told me the truth. He was lying. His eyes betrayed him. He could never lie to me straight in the eyes. That he never could do. And he never knew it either. I always played it off. But this time, this time it was on him. He had to protect me. He had to be the one in control. He had to be the one I loved. I pulled my knees to my chest. I cried softly, I didn't want him to know it hurt me that bad. I didn't want him to know he could get to me like that.

I climbed onto the couch and pulled the blanket up and laid with my head on the pillow my eyes colsed yet I was still wide awake. After about an hour I heard footsteps and someone messing with the door. I heard it slowly click shut and I jumped up. I ran out the door and watched the little red jetta speed away. "No! Come back!" I sank to my knees and cried. It was all I could do, afterwards I walked back into the house and locked it.

Days past and I had not heard from Michael. I didn't go to work. I didn't have a reason to. Nothing there for me. I had the house positively spotless. Every noke and crany. And six days were easy to get that much done. I sat on the couch the sixth day. Nothing in the house left for me to do. A bowl of cereal in my lap and the radio playing softly.

I never noticed the door open, or the figure that walked into the house. I didn't notice them until they were standing in front of me. "Maria?" I looked up and into the eyes of Liz. "What?" "What are you doing? This place looks like, well like no one ever walked into it." "I was bored." "You were needed at work." "Michael doesn't want me there." "How do you know Michael's even there?" "Because, he's with his family. I know him to well." "Well, yes okay he is there. But that doesn't mean a thing."

I set the bowl onto the table. "Liz, your a nice person, but believe me, I know Michael. He wouldn't have just left for so long unless he didn't want to be around me." "Perhaps he wanted you to chase him." "I don't chase, he doesn't chase. We don't play games." "You play lots of games." "Not this serious. Liz, he isn't ready to even face me. Am I right?" She didn't say anything. "I am right." "No, but Tess doesn't want him to say anything. She thinks, she thinks that your bad for him." "Well, isn't that nice." "No, because Maria he cries at night, every night since he showed up there. He just cries. Michael doesn't...." "Cry, yea I know. And I'm sorry for that, I am. But if he wants to settle anything, he'll know where to find me."

Liz sighed after that and walked right back out and I sat on the couch, no more tears left to shed and sunk deeper. He didn't show, not even after 12 days. I stopped eating. I didn't go outside. The house, still spotless and me well, I didn't feel so good. On the 17th day he was gone, 11 days after I stopped eating I passed out onto the floor. I got very dizzy and just, fell onto it. Unconcious.
