She knew he would fail. She would have bet her life on it if it weren't already in danger. The three were more powerful than she had expected. Was the prophecy true, she thought to herself, how much did he reveal to them?
He walked in and grabbed her arm. "You lie," he said as he pushed her towards the bed.
"I never said the plan would work," she rolled her eyes at him picking herself up. "They have become more powerful since my departure."
"That is no excuse, you should have prepared..."
"Don't blame me for your ignorance," she interrupted him, "YOU should have known. Your henchmen haven't be able to capture them, what made you think you would be able to do it alone?"
"You seem to have forgotten who you are speaking to. You are no longer a queen." He wrapped his hand around her neck "Your life is in my hands, I can still kill you"
"Would you now," she chuckle a bit, "As I recall you need me. Wasn't it YOU that approached ME in New York asking for my help? Face it without me you will die," she lowered herself to her knees, "You can take my life if you wish, but you will never get close to them without me. I know them, their weakness, who they trust." She stood herself up from the ground and grabbed his hand. She walked around to his ear and said, "I know what his downfall will be and what will make you become ruler. Liz Parker is the key to it all."
"Are you speaking the truth or is the jealously of a jilted lover?"
"A little of both, I want him to feel the lost I have felt. In our other life he loved me because it was his duty, yet in his heart he longed for another whom he did not know. It was as if he was searching for someone, for her. If she lives she will restore him to the thrown." Tess dropped his hand and asked, "Have you heard the story of the fallen king?"
"Refresh my memory, it's been awhile since I have heard it."
Tess pointed to the chair, "Have a seat, this may take awhile. My mother told me the story about a fallen king, when I was younger in my other life. I never thought that I would be the one living it. She said that one day a great rebellion would start and the royal four would be killed. That their death wouldn't be in vain because they would be reborn to another world..."
"...And the fallen king will defeat the skins and take his royal thrown back, restoring peace, blah, blah, blah. Everyone knows that story."
"I see that you do remember the story, but there is more and I am not so sure that it is a story anymore."
"Please continue," he said.
"She also told me that when this fallen king is reborn he knows nothing of his past life and that he must put the pieces together of who he was and who he is to become. She also said the king will have a new queen, one who is not of our world but of his new one. They will share a bond that cannot be broken, and they will be soul mates in every sense of the word." Tess walks over and sat on the bed, "She will restore him to the royal thrown and they will unite all the planets, destroying all enemies, and all will be at peace."
"And how do you know that this isn't just a story?"
"Each person has already begun to fulfill his or her own destiny. It started with Valandra's betrayal. Max and Liz became linked when he saved her. Unless we try to stop it there is no turning back."
"What may I asked ever happened to the king's first bride?"
"I asked my mother the same thing," Tess got up from the bed, walked in front him looking him in the eyes. "She died for betraying her king."
He walked to her, lowered his head and kissed her. "So why my dear, would the queen betray her beloved king?"
"Do you even have to ask?" Tess walked away from him and simply said, "He loved another."
Max stood on the fire escape out side of Liz's window. "Hi, can I come up," he asked waiting for her nod of approval, "How are you doing?"
"I am fine, how is Isabel?" she asked has she sat down in the chair next to Max.
"I think she will be ok, she was really shaken up about Kivar pretending to be Alex. I guess she loved him more than she thought." Max grabs Liz's hand and kisses it. Liz blushes.
"Max, are you and I ok... I mean are we able to get past all that has happened in the last months?"
"Liz, everything is as it should be," Max looked deep into her eyes, "I told you before you are my destiny." Max leans over and kisses Liz. They both saw flashes of their times together. Liz broke the kiss before Max could see what happen with his future self.
"Liz, can I ask you something?"
Liz dreaded what his question might be. They never actually talked about what happen or what didn't happen between her and Kyle. "Sure, what is it?"
"Why did you lie to me about sleeping with Kyle?"
"Max, I... I... can't talk about that right now. Give me some time, ok. I want and need to tell you about it but there are some things that I need to sort out first"
Max stands up and starts to pace, "I think I know what you mean." Max turns to looks at Liz. "I don't know what memories are mine or Tess's doing. How can I be sure that she is even pregnant? Why would she betray us like that? Was Nasedo behind all this, and if he was then why would they kill him?"
"Max I don't know, but I will help you find the answers." Liz walks over to Max and kisses him. "As much as I would love to make out with you I think you should be heading home. It's late. I will see you tomorrow." Max starts to climb down the fire escape, Liz stop him and kisses him again. "That one is to take with you, I love you Max. Don't ever forget that."
"I wont. I love you too Liz."
Liz watched Max until he was out of her sight. She smiled thinking about what he said to her 'You are my destiny', her smiles begins to fade. What now, she thinks to herself, Future Max said that Tess is essential to their survival, without her they all die. I don't understand. Liz walked into her, sat down on the bed and began to think some more. Could I have been mind warped? But how would Tess know all that stuff about Max. What he sang, and what we did? Liz picks up the phone and starts to dial, "Hey Maria, do you have any plans tomorrow morning... I need someone to talk to... sure 9 is fine with me... Ok bye."
"Hey, how are you?" Isabel asked as Max walked through the front door.
"I am good." Max sat down on the couch next to her, "How are you doing?"
"I am ok, in my mind I know that Alex is gone, but my heart doesn't want to let him go. It still hurts, but I am ok. Max I am sorry, I could have gotten you killed..."
"Iz we have talked about this before, you didn't know. I am glad that you are ok. We have a lot to figuring out."
"I know Max, what are we going to do about Tess and your son?"
"I don't know. I need to sort out all the memories I have. I don't which are truly mine or Tess's. As for my son I will find, one way or another. I need time to think about it all."
"I understand, I am here if you need to talk," Isabel hugs Max. "I never got to tell you thank you."
"For what?"
"For saving my life"
"You should thank Liz and Maria, I don't think we would have made it without them."
"I will, I think I am going to call it a night, see you in the morning." As Isabel walks down the hall she said, "Goodnight, Max."
"Nite Iz." Max walked into his bedroom, closed the door and sat on his bed. Why did Liz lie about Kyle, what is she hiding from me? Max laid down his head and went to sleep.
"Good morning, why are you still sleeping," Maria sat down on Liz's bed, "I thought you wanted to meet this morning?"
"I completely forgot, what time is it?" Liz asked as she sat up.
"Oh it about 9:15am, what did you want to talk about, you sounded a little worried on the phone. Come on, tell Auntie Maria what's wrong."
"Maria do you remember when I told you about future Max and the whole pretending to sleep with Kyle to save the world."
"Vaguely, but what does that have to do with anything?"
"Maria it has everything to do with it." Liz gets out of bed and starts to pace the floor, "Maria I gave up my future with Max to save Isabel, Michael and the world. Where does that leave me now? Future Max told me that Tess was vital to their survival. Tess is now gone, does that change what was suppose to happen between Max and I? Will our relationship be the cause of the end of the world? Maria I want to be with him more than anything, but how can I knowing that it may cause the end of the world?"
"Have you ever thought that I may have been Tess's doing all along?" Maria turns towards Liz; "She did have Alex believing he went to Sweden so that he could decode that book for her. Liz, you and Max belong together. You know that he is your soul mate. Don't give up on him so easily."
"I never said anything about giving upon him, but you can see why I so worried." Liz turns to Maria with tears in her eyes, "Would you willing risk everything for love, even if it meant losing everyone you have ever cared about?"
"Yes, I think I would. Liz I love Michael, and I am not going to let anything stand in the way of that. Just like I know you don't want anything to stand in the way of you and Max." Maria reaches for Liz and hugs her, "Tell him everything, He is going to need you more than anything now. Max is stronger because of you and don't you ever forget that. You belong with him. Remember Tess betrayed him, you didn't. Things will work out in the end."
Liz wiped the tears away from her eyes, "I hope you are right."
"You know they probably think you're dead. None of them have many memories of this world other then they ones that were put into their heads." Tess sat in the chair across from Kivar. "They don't even know what you look like. So how much did you reveal to them?"
"Isabel knows that it was you who told me about Alex. She has some flashes of memories of her and I when she was Valandra. They will soon figure out that it you that struck the deal with me and not Nasedo." Tess looks a bit uneasy, "Don't worry I am sure that your precious king would not kill the woman that bore his child. So tell me more about this Liz Parker."
"I told you she is the key to his downfall."
"You are not telling me what I want to hear. How is she the key to his downfall? I can see you dislike her as much as I do Max." Kivar touches her face. "Tell me, why do you hate her so."
"She has the one thing that I have long for. She has his love. Max never looked at me the way that he looks at her. He never loved me the way he does her. Why should he have the happiness that I have been denied? You know he still loved her even though she pretended to sleep with some one else." Tess chuckle, "I would love to know why she did it."
Liz began to wipe down the counter at the Crashdown. Only an hour to go before closing, she thought to herself. Liz decided to tell Max the truth tonight. She didn't know if it was the right thing to do but she knew she had to tell him. As she walked from around the counter to wipe down some of the tables Isabel and Max walked through the door. Max sat in a booth while Isabel went to talk to Liz.
"Can we go in the back and talk real quick," Isabel asked Liz, "and grab Maria, there is something I need to tell you."
"Sure, I will be right back." Liz walked over to the counter and told Maria to meet them in the back room. "Isabel is everything ok?"
"Yeah I just wanted to..." Isabel walks up and grabs both of them on a hug, "I wanted to say thank you. I never got the chance to say it earlier."
After the initial shock of the hug wore off they began to hug her back. "Isabel, you would have done the same for any of us, beside you needed our help. I know things have been the hardest on you since Alex's death." Liz looked at her, "How are you holding up?"
"Well if you are asking if I am still seeing Alex in my dreams, my answer is I am fine. In my mind I know that he is gone, it's that small matter of my heart needing to know that."
"Hey if you ever need anyone to talk to, Liz and I are both here for you. I hate to do this but I need to get back to work before Liz's dad begins to flip out." Maria gives Isabel quick hug. "If you need someone to talk to you know where to find me"
"Hey that goes for me too. I need to get back to work, are you and Max eating dinner here?"
"Yeah, mom and dad are out of town so we decided to come here for dinner."
"Good then I will see in a bit." Liz watched Isabel walk out of the back room and over to the booth where Max was seated. I have to tell him tonight, she thought. She walked out of the back room and began to wait on tables. "Hey Max, Are we still on for tonight?"
"I think so, I need to dropped Iz at home and I will come back for you, OK."
"That's fine, there is something I need..."
"Hey Liz, can I get some help over here?" Maria calls out to her.
"Sure I will be right there," Liz turns back to Max, "I will see you tonight."
Maria and Liz start cleaning and getting the diner ready for closing. "Maria," Liz calls out to her. Maria is completely into the table that she is cleaning. "MARIA!"
"What?" she shouted as she turns around, "Sorry I was in la la land there for bit." Maria walks back to were Liz is standing, "What up?"
"I think I am going to tell him tonight. Am I doing the right thing?"
"Hey I am the one who said you should tell him, he needs to know."
"Who needs to know what?" Michael walked in the middle of their conversion.
"Michael, this is girl talk you don't want to here about all this stuff."
"Ok, whatever. Hurry up so we can get out of here."
"Yeah, yeah, I'll be right there," Maria said waving Michael of. "Liz call me in the morning, we'll have a long talk ok. Hey here comes Max."
"Bye Maria I will see you tomorrow. Hi Max, I am ready whenever you are."
"Ok, let's go."
Liz sat across from Max searching for the right words to say. She never thought that it would be this difficult to tell him. Then again she never planned on telling him. Soon the silence was too much for them to bear. They said each other's name at the same.
"Max go head." Liz went to sit on the bed next to Max.
"Liz, I... I ... I don't even know where to begin. I am sorry about what happened to Alex. I never wanted any of you to get hurt. I am sorry for treating you they way I did when Tess was still around. I am sorry I wasn't there when you needed me."
"Max you don't have to apologize for anything. You simply didn't know."
"I don't even know what memories are mine and which are Tess's. I have seen visions of my planet but I saw them with Tess. I have to know what her and Kivar are up to. Could she have mind warped me?"
"Max I don't know, the only reason we knew about Alex's was because he, Kyle and Amy were all tapping after she did. What if it works differently on you guys? I thought Kivar was dead."
"We can't be sure, I thought Tess killed Nicholas but we saw him in New York. I don't know how powerful they are." Max grabs Liz's hand. "Liz I need to know, why..."
"I know Max, you want to know why I lied about Kyle. The truth is I did it for you because you asked me to." Max looked at Liz confused. "I mean your future self asked me to help you fall out of love with me."
"Liz I don't understand."
"Max let me start from the beginning." Liz proceeds to tell Max about the night his future self came and the reasons for her deception.
"Liz, I don't know what to say."
"Max, you don't have to say anything. I did what I thought was right. I loved you too much to watch you loose everything and everyone. I wanted to be with you, but I knew it wasn't part of your destiny. Which now leaves me scared for our future and of the earth's."
"What do you mean?"
"You came to me because you needed Tess to stay in Roswell. She was the reason why everything was lost. You, Michael and Isabel weren't powerful enough to fight out her. Now I am worried that we are doomed to live the same fate despite my efforts."
"Liz how do you know that it wasn't a shapeshifter or someone's mind warping you?"
"I don't, but there were too many things that future you knew that a shapeshifter couldn't have known. Max, are you willing to take that risk to find out? The fate of not only your world but also earth depends on your success." The tears in Liz's eyes begin to fall. "How can I willing sacrifice the lives of everyone including you."
"Liz I don't know who I am or who I'm to become anymore. All I know is that I need you in my life. We will get through this. You asked if I would willingly give up everything, knowing it may cause my destruction. My answer is yes, without you I am already dead. Because of you I am stronger." Max leans forward to kiss Liz. In the kiss they see flashes of their past, present and future. Liz breaks free from the kiss and looks into Max's eyes.
"Max, I don't understand the visions."
"Liz neither do I, but I know that I am suppose to be with you." Liz get up to leave when Max grabs her hand, "No, don't go. Liz," he whispers, "please stay. I need you."
Liz turns around to kiss Max to show him her answer. Once again their passion ignites more visions, yet neither of them understood what all of it meant. They just wanted to be together, to become one with each. With every second that passed Liz's heart began to take control. It was Max, she thought, it has always been him and there will only be him. He was her heart had ever known, and there was no one who could take his place. Max slipped her shirt over her head, and then he took off his own. Liz stepped back into his embrace to deepen their kiss. The touch of his lips sent shivers up and down Liz's spine as he kissed her neck and shoulders.
Max lost track of everything around him, except for Liz. He could feel the heat of her hands on his back as the roamed up and down. He never wanted to loose this feeling. He never wanted to be separated for her again. Max laid Liz down on the bed, not once breaking their kisses. She was his and his alone, and he knew that. She was his everything, his life, and his breath.
"Max, I... we... we can't do this. I mean we can't do this now." Liz starts to get out of the bed. "This is how it happen. We made a bond that could not be broken. I'm sorry, but I can't."
"Ok, I understand." Max felt Liz's fear of what the outcome would be if they took that step forward in their relationship. "Just stay the night, nothing more. I just want you here with me." Max held out his hand to her. He eyes gave her their silent plea.
Liz didn't know what to do. She was torn in two different directions, but which was right, her heart or her conscious. As she reached out to him she knew the answer... her heart. "I love you."
"I love you too." He said has she climbed back into bed. They spent the night wrapped in each other embrace, nothing more, nothing less.
Liz awoke in a start, where am I, she thought to herself. The last thing she could remember was sleeping in Max's arms. She looked around but nothing looked familiar to her. She was tied to a chair in the middle of the room.
"Hi Liz, did you miss me?"
"Oh my god, Tess how did you get here and where is Max's son?"
"Not that it is any of your business but he is with Kivar."
"So why did you do it? You killed Alex and you were going to let Max, Isabel and Michael die. They trusted you."
"Because it was in my destiny." Tess smiled.
"What the hell are you talking about? Your destiny was with Max."
"So everyone thinks. Max never loved me, not even in our other life. I was his queen because it was arranged that way, but he always longed for another."
Liz's mind flashes back to when she met Ava. "It's like he was searching for someone." Ava said. "Tess what are you talking about?"
"It was you." She said.
Liz's heart stop. Her thoughts go back to the day when she asked Max why he saved her. 'It was you' He told her.
"What?!"
"Don't look so stunned. You knew it all along but were just to blind to see"
"But the book, the message from the orb."
"The message was just to tell us who we were in our other life, and well the book I only let them know what I wanted them to. Liz I would love to continue this chit chat but I have a date with Max." Tess shape shifts herself into Liz.
"But I...I thought you didn't have the power to shape shift."
"There is a lot about me you don't know."
Max awoke the next morning to the ringing of the phone. "Hello... oh hi Maria... Yeah she spent the night... hold on." Max got out of bed in search for Liz, much to his surprise she is gone. "Hey Maria, she maybe at home... oh... she wasn't there, hey wait a sec I found a note. It says to meet her at Michael's... Ok I will see you there." Max quickly put on his clothes and left. He knew something wasn't right.
"Hi Michael." Max walks in and starts looking around.
"Hey Max come on in." Michael said a bit irritated. "Ok what are you looking for."
"Liz, she said to meet her here."
"Max why would Liz meet you here, why not the Crashdown ... or her house... or your house?"
"I don't know. She was with me last night when I fell asleep and when I woke this morning she was gone and all that was left was a note."
"Hi, is she here?"
"No, I don't know where she is Maria. Something isn't right."
"HEY MARIA." Liz's voice shouted. Maria turned to see a bright flash of light coming from Liz's hand.
"MARIA, MAX, WATCH OUT!!!" Michael grabbed her out of the way just in time. "Ok Max, when did Liz get powers?"
"Uh Michael, I don't think that is Liz." Maria said while picking herself up. "Michael where is Max?" Michael turned to see Max chasing after Liz.
"Maria go find Isabel, tell her what happened and stay with her. I will be back for you." Michael kisses Maria. "Don't worry, just go." After Maria left Michael took off in the same direction as Max.
" Hey Liz, your lover boy is on his way. You can watch him die before I take you life." Tess smiled, " you should have seem the look on his face when I tried or should I say you tried to kill him."
"Tess you are not going to get away with this."
"Liz? Are you in here," Max's voice called, "Liz, where are you?"
"MAX, HELP!!" Tess yelled as she shape shifts back into Liz again. "Looks like I will."
Max walks in to see Liz lying on the ground unconscious. Michael grabs his arm before he could go any farther.
"Max look," Michael pointed, "there is two of them. It's a trap."
"Michael I just can't leave her lying there, she could be dy..."
"Or she could be waiting to kill you. Think Max, There has to be another way."
"Michael I don't know if there is... wait. Liz and I share a bond from when I save her. We can see into each other. I can't explain it, but it might work. It's like Isabel's dream walking, but I can only do it with Liz." Max closes his eyes to try. "Michael I know which one is her."
Max walked up to Liz and put his hand on her chest has if to heal her. Her eyes open and look at Max. She smiles and says, "I am NOT Liz."
"I know Tess," Max starts to use his powers before Tess realized that he knew. "Where is my son?"
"You're gonna have to kill me, cause you will NEVER see your son."
FLASH- Tess and Kivar talking about Liz... the story of the fallen king... Kivar with his son... Liz his true love, his destiny...
"Tess where is my son?"
"You never loved me, you were always searching for her." As she felt her life drain from her she whisper, "You'll never find him."
Max gets another vision from Tess

"Max," Michael put his hand on his shoulder, "Are you ok?"
"I'm fine, where is Liz?"
Michael pointed towards her. "She is fine, a little shaken but she is fine."
"Let's get out of here." Max picked up Liz and they left.
"Isabel, here they come, and they have Liz with them." Maria said looking through Michael's window. Maria opened the door to let them into the apartment, while Isabel cleaned off the couch. "How is she doing?"
"She is going to be fine." Max said has he laid Liz down on the couch.
"Are you ok?" Michael asked has walked over to where Maria was standing.
"I am fine," Maria said walking into his embrace.
"Max," Isabel turned to him, "who was behind all this?"
"Tess, some how she could shape shift."
"Max what are we going to do about Tess?"
"Nothing, she is dead. I have to find my son. I know he is with Kivar." Max turns his attentions to Liz. "Are you ok?"
"I'm fine" Liz sat her self up.
"Do you remember anything?"
"A little, some things are still a blur. Is she really gone?"
Max nodded.
"How did you know you had the right one?
"It was you." Max leaned down to kiss Liz to show her what he meant. They saw visions of the past, present and future and she finally understood.
Liz smiled and whispered, "It was you."
