Earth: Final Conflict Episode Review

Review of week 2-12-00
Earth: Final Conflict
"Scorched Earth"

Initial response: Does Jayne Heitmeyer EVER have to use hairspray?

On Earth: Final Conflict, there are only confusing and more confusing episodes. This one was quite frustrating in its deeply layered plot and enigmatic character developments. It was no great surprise for most of us to learn that René Palmer had intelligence connections, but how were we going to know that the Taelons had initiated the SI war? The stated reason involves impressing humanity, but E:FC viewers shouldn't assume that the Taelons (or TPTB of the show) are giving us all the information there is. There is also the matter of Sandoval's character development. I, at least, have to question whether the producers/writers actually know where they are going with this. So far, the only thing the show has established is that his loyalty to himself is utterly firm.

This episode was interesting, provided plenty of play between characters (witness the René/Augur scene in his bar), and held my attention fairly well. The plot twists were confusing here, but may play out into good storylines later. I'd say "Scorched Earth" deserves a B+.
