These cylinders have a dual purpose. In this mode they carry half of the phaser arrays. The warp nacelles are integrated into the saucer section itself; they look embedded. This strange setup is to facilitate easy docking, with another Harrier or a Torpedo carrier(see later). The cylinder actually runs through the saucer, and is hollow. Also has the capability to have starship repair parts placed inside; they`re about 400m wide, tall, etc; so the larger starships would need a separate place. The Warp engines are deactivated, and the M\ARA function as power generators. Torpedo Carrier "Siege class" Dimensions Length: 400m Beam: 300 m Height: 80 m Decks: 22 Mass 2,655,000 tons Armament 4 x Type X phaser arrays 15 x Pulse fire torpedo tubes Torpedo Load-1600 Quantum torpedos 800 Photon Torpedos 300 Cluster torpedos 300 Graviton Torpedos Defence Systems Shield system -EM Regen system -Metaphasics Standard Duratanium/carbotanium/Tritanium double hull plus 10cm ablative armour Standard level Structural Integrity Field Warp Speeds Normal Cruise : Warp Factor 5 Maximum Cruise : Warp Factor 8.9 Maximum Rated : Warp Factor 9.7 for twelve hours These are slower, less advanced comparatively speaking to most ships; their primary non-base purpose would be to be gun-boats in battle or carry large amounts of shuttles, fighters or cargo. In starbase mode, they link to the very end of the starbase, and provide heavy torpedo firepower to compensate for the lack of torpedos on the Harriers. They have no cylinder in the center, just a docking port on top to connect with the bottom of a Harrier. Purpose Essentially to provide a easier method of starbase construction; simply fly these ships out there and dock..PRESTO, instant starbase, at any size you need..well, almost. There are limits due to SIF field strengths and the fact that all the thrusters can only hold so much matter in orbit. Afterwards, all the components can be sent out to preform normal starship functions. Or, they can be kept there permanently; Another interesting fact is that during times of conflict it could separate, send the civilians off in one or two parts and the rest defend against the invaders. |
