Merdragons
You stumble through the portal and look around. You stand on a an island surronded by water. The island is small, but there's a little house on it. The door opens and a young woman walks out. She stands five foot two with pale blue hair and green eyes. Her hair is braided and her hands gentaly clasped before her.
"Welcome to my home, travelor," she says quietly. "My name is Ryvin. I adopted merdragons from Minidragon Isle."
"Merdragons?" you question.
"Merdragons are cousins to minidragons. They go from highest to lowest starting with Pearl, Rainbow, Apprentice, Healer, Tow, Repair, Sandcomber, Siren, Conversion, Nurse, Dome, Marine, Wave, Seasickness, Locator, Maiden's Kiss, Coral, Electric, and Kelp." She looks at your bewildered expression and laughs. "Following this? Or anymore, as the case maybe?" You shake your head and indicate for her to continue on.
"Anyway, merdragons live in the ocean and cannot be put in freshwater as it blisters their hide. They prefer to eat crab, shrimp, lobster, and fish, and they gain their vitamins from eating kelp. They're on average about three and a half feet and they will only wait 72 hours as a young adult to bond with someone. After that, they become wild."
You look aroung the cove and see it's inside a giant cave. You ask about it as she smiles.
"My family's fisher folk," she tells you, "and one day when I was little, I fell over board. The curients dragged me here. It took me a few days to find a way out, but there was food here. I ate mainly sea food, but there is some sea grass. Filling, but bland. Anyway, I have used this cave as a retreat ever since. I'm also trying to convince an abandoned. I feel so sorry for the abandoned. They shouldn't be. Would you like to see them?"
You nod and she trails her fingers in the water. A head breaks the water and the merdragon purrs as she scratches the merdragon's head. After a few moments, a second head breaks through.
"Her name is LightRipple. She's an electric. Electrics are sort of like our eels in that they can give off an electrical shock. They can, also, glow like a lantern for hours at a time. Which, in this place, is helpful. The other is her sister, WaveTouch, a Seasick. Seasicks are all female and can help with people who are seasick. These two are sisters, and from the clutch of Seashell and Inhalie."
She pauses a moment, then whistles and two more heads break through the surface.
The one to the left is a Healer. This one's a male and from the clutch Kelpy and Marino, as his brother, the Kelp on the right. The Healer is SeaWater, as sea water can cure and help heal cuts. Healers know all the healing plants within the ocean, can harvest them, grow them, locate them, etc. The Kelp male is SeaBed. Kelps are gifted with the ability to grow beds of bitter sweet kelp for consumption. They, also, have a "way" with all the plants under the ocean, but specialize in kelp. And then, yet another two more. Boy, you must be getting sick of my merdragons."
"The male Dome on the left is AirBreath. Always male, these dragons have the ability to create an air dome up to 75 ft in diameter. Their bond can live there and study the ocean from that point. The dome will last up to 6 months. The female Coral next to him is his sister CoralKiss from Marine Aquatica and Wave Legend. Female only, these dragons can build coral-like artwork, jewelry and more. Their astounding abilities with the coral-like substance that they create are limited only by their imaginations."
You thank her for her time, and go through the portal or to see the minidragons.
