Kollana learned at a very young age what the terrors of the world would be like. Her parents Kalain and Joreen Ukarau spent most of her young life abroad, leaving her in the care of her 3 older brothers: Roykin, Shardeth and Twinsen, specifically Twinsen (the oldest). Because of this, Twinsen and Kollana grew very close, closer than the typical brother-sister relationship. This relationship, however, would prove more devastating than good in the years to come.
On one of their many outings, Kollana's parents decided to take her youngest brother, Roykin, with them. It wasnt long after when word got back to Twinsen, Shardeth, and Kollana that their parents and brother had been killed. The 3 siblings were devastated when the Empire told them it was an attack from the rebels that brought them to their untimely end. Worn down and striken with depression and grief, Twinsen fell deep into his studies, leaving Kollana and Shardeth alone for the first time. Because she was still young, Kollana was put up for adoption.
She and Shard remained in contact. Not having dealt w/ the death of her parents and brother, and the 'desertment' she felt from Twinsen, Kollana delved deep into her pain and rage, and was untouchable by anyone who tried to provide a positive influence on her. Then, an older couple.. Cho'kan and Lealana Daktari saw the young woman and took her into their home on Coruscant. After many arguements and even more attempted run-aways, Kollana finally opened up to the love and support offered by the Daktari's, she then changed her name to Kollana Ukarau Daktari. She found herself enjoying a life she never thought possible.
Having a family once again enabled her to get past the anger and pain. She was at peace for the first time since the death of her parents and brother. She still kept in contact w/ Shardeth who, unlike her, was getting angrier w/each passing day. He approached her and informed her that their brother Twinsen (who since changed his name to Tarison when he joined the Empire) had "deserted his Imperial duties as he deserted us". When she tried to approach him about it, he became defensive and vowed to protect her till his death. That is the last she heard of about Tarison.
She now works w/children and families on Coruscant, and is well liked in her community. Her brother, Shardeth, overbearing w/his protection tries to keep close at all times. Kollana, understanding he's still suffering inside, says nothing more. But deep in her heart, her thoughts often retreat to the memories of her family as it once was, wishing there was a way they could once again have that perfect family, and wondering if she'll ever get to see her brother Twinsen again.
