Ok, I'm not the biggest fan on religous themed horror movies, but The Exorcist is one exception. It is probably one of the most intense horror films of all time. It's about a single mother, Chris McNeil, and her daughter, Regan, living in Washington DC. Chris is an actress, and for the most part they live a normal life, but things begin to change when Chris notices a rapid change in Regan's behavior after Regan begins contacting "Captain Howdy" on a Ouija board.
She pees on the carpet in front of Chris' guests, and her bed shakes violently while she's trying to sleep. The behavior gets more and more violent, and Regan begins screaming cuss words and obscene comments, and claiming she is Satan himself. And her head spins all the way around. Yes, all the way around!
Chris has her tested for various things, neurological disorders, and all that stuff, but nothing seems to fit the description of Regan's behavior, and the doctors and Chris are baffled as to what is wrong.
As a last resort, Chris asks a Catholic priest to come perform an exorcism on her daughter. The classic scene begins with the priest getting out of the taxi onto the foggy sidewalk where the street light glows on the house.
I won't say anymore, but this movie is excellent. It has some very distrubing scenes and excellent acting from Ellen Burstyn and Linda Blair. There are moments in this film that are gonna leave you with your jaw dropped to the floor. Friedkin creates some disturbing images and intensity that is hard to come along in most horror films. This movie will truly shock you and scare you. Some of the things you see this little girl doing are just horrifying and utterly shocking. Very creepy.
