Self-help: How to manage at home whilst in pain
Take warm baths, if possible.
Local heat (apply a heat pad to the painful area).
Massage.
Increased fluid intake (half to one cup every hour).
Try to take small amounts of well balanced, nutritious food.
Take rest and try to keep warm.
You may find relaxation methods or diversional activities useful e.g. music, relaxation tapes, deep breathing exercises etc.
Use prescribed pain medication only as directed by your doctor.
