Self-help: When to take your temperature

If you are feeling hot

If you have symptoms of a cold, cough, congestion or runny nose

If you are vomitting

If you have diarrhoea

If you are not eating well

If you feel irritable or are in pain

If the temperature is 39ºC (101F) or over, call your doctor

Take the temperature again in an hour

It is important to remember that medicines given to reduce fever will bring down the temperature but may mask the infection. Seek medical advice.

Your doctor/nurse can show you how to use a thermometer.
