Images of preserved Ballarat trams

Following the closure by the State Electricity Commission of Victoria (SECV) of the Ballarat tramway system in 1971, a 1.3 km section of track along Wendouree Parade was retained. The Ballarat Tramway Museum Inc., trading as the Ballarat Vintage Tramway, operates tourist trams along this section of line. The Ballarat Vintage Tramway operates in a very picturesque area of Ballarat, being adjacent to the beautiful Lake Wendouree, and being located in the Ballarat Botanical Gardens.

The museum tramway typifies much of what was unusual and special about the Ballarat tramway system - the single line, with side of road operation, which led to the unusual tramcar designs that typified the Ballarat tramway system.

The only additional trackage laid by the Museum since the SECV closure has been that required for the new Depot.

Here is a selection of pictures taken of the Ballarat Vintage Tramway. Also shown is a picture of an ex-SECV tram on a farm near Ballarat. Enjoy!
