South Carolina's State Flag

The South Carolina Flag was designed by Col. William Moultrie and his  war unit  in the Year 1776.  It was designed to be used in battle by the troops.

The crescent moon represents the emblem worn on the caps of the confederate soldiers.

The blue color matches the color of the caps that the confederate soldiers wore.

The Palmetto Tree was added later to represent Col. William Moultrie's brave defense of a fort on Sullivan's Island

By Law:

* The State Flag must be hung inside every public school building so that students will be taught proper respect for it

* The State Flag will also hang outside the State House and from a staff outside every county courthouse except for on rainy days.

* Anyone who mutilates, injures or desecrates the State Flag could be fined 100$ or put in jail for 30 days or both!
