SC government is divided into 3 branches:

Legislative:

* called the General Assembly
* made up of a senate & House of Representatives
* 46 members of the senate serve 4 year terms.
* 124 Representatives of the house serve 2 year terms 
* The General Assembly  makes laws and determines how state revenue will be spent.
* It meets for one regular session each year, but the governor may call special sessions

Judicial

* Judicial power lies with the state supreme court.
* The supreme court has a chief justice and four associate justices that are elected to 10 year terms. 
* The General Assembly elects the justices and 16 circuit-court justices for four year terms.
* Magistrate's court hear minor civil and criminal cases. 
* The governor appoints these judges with state senate approval. 
* Most counties have county courts that hear minor cases.

Executive

* The governor is the chief executive.
* We also elect a lieutenant governor, attorney general, commissioner of agriculture, secretary of state, comptroller general, state treasurer, and a superintendent of Education. 
* Each of those serve four year terms. The governor can now serve two consecutive terms.
