- The sight word bingo is
a game I developed while working on a literacy project that focused on
using technology to enhance literacy instruction. Acquisition of sight word
recognition is essential to the emerging reader. When sight words are
recognized and internalized the reader is able to decipher the meaning of
a sentence and comprehend the reading. Sight word bingo is a fun way to
have students practice recognizing and identifying common words they will
encounter as readers. The sight word cards are used to call out the word
and what row it will be found under. Students place chips over the word,
and the first person to complete a row is the winner. The words are then
reviewed to assure they were correctly marked.
