Ammunition Magazine.
This rather mundane structure, the roof only, visible in this photograph, is not part of our attempt to save the site, and housed the ammunition for the main guns. The emplacements themselves had a small magazine as an integral part of their construction but the main store of ammunition was here. The site's ammunition stock for the main guns was 538 rounds of service ammunition, each weighing approximately 46.000 Kilograms, and 260 rounds of practice ammunition. Access to the magazine was gained down a slope to the right of this photograph.
The building is now flooded and used as a water tank.
