What's Been Done So Far

After their visit to the site in 1995, Russell and John made an application to the New Zealand Historic Places Trust for registration of the three structures. On 28th June 2008 the site was registered as a category 2 Historic Place.

In 1996, Russell and John made an application to the Timaru District Plan to have the site complete with the three structures made a heritage site and were successful in having them designated as category B heritage structures and to be shown on map U8 as such.

John has visited the National Archives in Christchurch and obtained information from there and thanks must also go to Mr. Doug Drake, local author and former Timaru Herald reporter for his help, and the late Andy Collett who was a gunner at the site during the war.

Research continues and the more help we have the more likely it is we will be successful in finding further information about the history of the site and the fate of the guns and other equipment used there.
