THE NILE SYSTEM DRAINS A WATER SHED AREA OF 3.030.300.SQUARE KILOMETERS.THERE ARE TEN COUNTRIES ACROSS THE NILE BASIN.THE NILE IS THE LONGEST RIVER IN THE WORLD RUNNING FOR 6,650 KILOMETERS.THE BLUE
NILE RIVER RISES IN ETHOPIA AT THE LAKE TANA.THIS IS A FAST FLOWING RIVER DURING THE SUMMER OF TORRENTIAL RAIN.
For centuries the Nile River Valley flooded the land with alluvial soil. Flooding occurs from July-Sept as a result of tropical rains. The river is at its highest level in October were the flood was controlled by canals and banks. The Aswan dam controls today flooding. The flooding of the Nile River makes ships on either side very fertile. Agriculture was practiced along these banks. The flooding provides the only moisture for crops. Irrigation canals control water during the dry spells. Crops cultivated include wheat barley, lentils beans, dates fries and grapes. The Nile River is a great natural resource. Without its water and rich soil, Egyptian cultivation would not have thrived.
Papyrus
The papyrus is a very important plant .For example, it is smooth because smooth ivory is rubbed on it and makes it very slippery and smooth.
This plant can increase its size to five feet tall .It has also been growing over 2 millenniums. These plants are very unique because they can dissolve in vinegar, boiling water, and the finest flower in the states. These ingredients can also mix to make a sticky kind of material. Not glue or gum because these objects are too brittle. This bush is very fabricated and moist with water from the Nile. Every year it increases it’s measurement by foot. Meaning it grows to be 6 feet every year. Beyond that this tree makes some of the smoothest paper in the continent. These beautiful plants are only found in one part of the earth.
The palm well known since ancient times was regarded by the Egyptians as being a fertility symbol. It was represented on coins, monuments, and by other civilizations.
