ACT THREE
FADE IN:
EXT. ROBOTROPOLICE - NOON
The two are still hugging and then stop, holding hands.
SONIA
You know, we could stay a little longer!
MAI
Stay as long as you want! I’ll extend it for ya’ll!
The two put their hands down. Manic walks toward Sonia.
ANGLE ON SONIA AND MANIC
MANIC
Yo, sis.
SONIA
Yeah?
MANIC (CONT’D)
Sorry about that thing in the forest. I, uh, didn’t mean it.
SONIA
Hey! It’s all right! And besides, you are my little brother.
Then, the Oracle comes back. He tells them something terrible.
ORACLE
Good job stopping the earthquake. I see you have passed the test. You have proven that no matter what, always help the ones you love. And Manic has learned not to do that again.
(chuckle)
But I have some bad news.
SONIC
Spit it out, Orc.
ORACLE (CONT’D_
Well, you tried to save your Mother, and that’s good. But doing so, you had to
get right up to her. It was not the wisest choice.
MANIC
What do you mean?
ORACLE (CONT’D)
It almost endangered the prophecy. Manic, did you have a strange feeling when trying to free her?
MANIC
Well… now that you mention it, I did feel pain going on in my head.
ORACLE (CONT’D)
Yes. It is because it is not time. And I believe it has caused Queen Aleena some serious pain. Observe.
The Oracle used his powers to show them something. Glowing green energy emerged from his hands, creating a large ball-type thing. Then it revealed something.
The camera zooms in even closer to were we see none of the green glow surrounding it. Aleena appeared to be laying down in an old bed, sweaty as can be. She had serious coughs that made her look like she had a cold. By the bed stood Tails.
TAILS
Are you all right?
ALEENA
(faintly)
That’s the
(cough)
closest I’ve ever been
(cough)
with one of my
child-
(cough)
-ren.
TAILS (CONT’D)
Do you feel sick or something?
ALEENA
(faintly)
I’m all
(cough)
right. I just feel
(cough)
a little woozy. Nothing a little
(cough)
medicine and rest can’t
(cough)
cure.
Aleena did a small smile.
TAILS
I’ll get you something to drink. Like apple juice. Let me call a doctor.
ALEENA (CONT’D)
(faintly)
Thanks. You’re a real friend.
TAILS
Well, when I’m not being annoying I’ll admit.
Aleena did a small chuckle.
Then the green glow came down and made the ball again. It then dissolved into the air.
ORACLE
See what I mean?
MANIC
Oh man. I tried to save Mom, but ended up doing more damage. How could I be so stupid? Oh. I guess it’s true. I’m a klutz.
SONIA
Don’t feel bad. You didn’t know that would happen. And besides. They’ve got everything under control. By the looks of it, she just got something small, like a fever. They’re calling a doctor. Don’t worry too much Manic.
Manic sighed.
MANIC
Stupid prophecy. Hey… Orc? Did you do this because you wanted it to happen?
ORACLE
Hey! I want you guys to meet. And besides, if you guys hadn’t of been separated, you wouldn’t know Farrell, or Chuck, or Lady Windermere. And those who are watching this right now wouldn’t be, making there lives pretty boring!
Sonic looked around.
SONIC
What!? You mean someone’s watching our every move? Creepy!
SONIA
AHH! Am I on TV? Oh no! I’m not ready! I need a better outfit! Where’s my makeup? Do I have agent?
MANIC
Uhh… that’s why I felt like little kids were watching me. See Mai? Little kids
ARE watching us! We’re a cartoon!
MAI
Oh WHATEVER! Do I have an agent like Sonia?
The Oracle put his head in one of his hands. He shook his head.
ORACLE
Why did I have to bring that up? Anyway…
He looked to see them still wandering about the TV thing.
ORACLE (CONT’D)
Anyway…
(Looks again)
Anyway!
(Looks again)
ANYWAY!
(Looks again)
ANYWAY!!!
He finally uses green thunder magic to make them all listen.
ORACLE (CONT’D)
Now that I have your attention, you must not try to help your mother again until it is time for you to meet.
He turns away to leave. He then stops and remembers something.
ORACLE
And by the way, Manic. Mai is telling the truth when she says she isn’t working with Robotnik. She was. Until you came into her life.
He then went away. Manic walked toward Mai.
ON MAI AND MANIC
MANIC
So you aren’t anymore?
MAI
Nope. You showed me how to see the nothing is whole, and nothing is broken.
MANIC
Huh? What does that mean?
MAI
I don’t know. I just heard it in a song. I mean that you showed me the truth. I don’t want to cause trouble any more!
MANIC
Yeah, but It’s still my fault Mom’s really sick.
MAI
Oh, honey. You didn’t mean it.
MANIC
(angry and hopelessly)
Look! Mom’s really sick and it’s my fault! You can’t change that!
MAI
(angry)
Fine! Be that way! Be that brat who always looks at the negatives! See if I care! And in fact,
Mai took a blue card out of her pocket. The camera zooms up to it to show that it says, “Manic and Mai! BFFS” And ripped it.
MAI (CONT’D)
We’re done! I’m breaking up with you!
She walked away angrily. Sonic and Sonia looked at each other. Sonic walked over
to Manic, about to put his hand on his shoulder, when Manic walked away sadly.
INT-CUROUS MEADOWS HOTEL-NIGHT
Mai was organizing her desk. She suddenly saw a picture of Manic. She picked it up, and started crying. Then she threw it across the room. It shattered as it hit the floor, landing in front of the feet of someone who was standing at the door. The camera moved up slightly to reveal Sonia. She bent down, and picked it up.
SONIA
Look. I understand you got frustrated. I get that feeling a lot.
MAI
I hate it when people look at the negatives!
EXT-ROBOTROPOLICE BRIDGE-SAME TIME
Manic is sitting at the edge of a small bridge. He is looking in the water sadly.
SONG DREAM SEQUINCE BEGINS
There’s a long introduction. Manic stands up and walks through town sadly.
MANIC (singing)
I can’t remember anything at all
I’ve been turning it all around
I’m sorry, Oh, so sorry
Is this what I have become?
He looks up at the sky as the music plays louder. The camera moves up to the sky
(this is where Manic starts singing again) to show Mai and Manic both on the same hoverboard, smiling. Then Mai jumps off on a cloud angrily. Manic continues hoverboarding sadly.
MANIC (singing)

Sometimes I wish

The camera comes down to where it was. Manic is still there looking up. He then continues walking.
MANIC (singing)
And I’ll try to save the world

I’m the chosen one!
I’m the chosen one
Manic is still walking, but stops at a park. He starts sits down in the grass as the music slows down (he then continues singing). He looks around and sees dating couples sitting on benches, on the swings, sitting in the grass and everywhere.
MANIC (singing)
I can’t remember what I used to be
Something’s turning me upside down
You made me, and Il love you
But I can’t change the things I’ve done
I’m the chosen one
He gets up (he starts singing again) and walks by the happy teens. He has his hands on his arms. He walks by several gift stores. Each of them has a slogan like, “Show her you care!” or “For that special one.” Or something like that.
MANIC (singing)

The Ch-ch-chosen one…
Manic walks by the hotel and looks in the window. The music then plays louder.
He sees Mai at the desk crying. He sees someone else taking his room. He looks down sadly. He then walks away. He sees the forest. He decides not to go there.
He continues walking and sings a small, quiet line “The chosen one.” He finally comes back to the bridge and stands at the rail again. Then he sings even quieter, “I’m the chosen one.” The song soon comes to an end.
