ACT ONE
FADE IN:
INT. SONIC UNDERGROUND VAN – MOVING - DAWN
About 30 minutes later, the three were
already in their seats, on the way towards Robotropolis. Sonia was writing in her diary and Manic just
watched her, silent. He cleared his
throat.
MANIC
Sis, whatcha writing?
Sonia looked up from her writing, somehow
confused.
SONIA
Huh?
Oh, it's diary.
She smiled at him and then, continued her
writing.
MANIC
Oh.
(pause)
By the way, can I... ask you a question?
He moved, somewhat nervously, in his seat. Sonia NODDED while she continued writing.
MANIC (CONT’D)
Before we reunited after 16 years of
separation... where did you live?
Sonia’s pencil SLIPPED out of her hand. Sonic took a glance behind him, while still
driving.
SONIA
I...
(sigh)
... was raised by Lady Windermere.
Sonic picked up her pencil, she continued
writing while biting in her lip. Manic
seemed sort of surprised. He never
expected her to answer the question. In
the week she had been there, she had always moved on to another subject,
avoiding answering any question about her past at all. He didn't want to make her sad, he just wanted
to communicate with her.
SONIC
What about the rest of your foster family,
what were they called?
Jennifer looked up, once again biting in her
lip, sighing.
SONIA
Just Lady Windermere. I had my Aunt Amanda, as well, and my
grandparents. When I felt I couldn't
rely on Windermere, I always went to my aunt.
My grandparents were in northern Mobius so, I rarely saw them. Lady Windermere hadn't time to go somewhere,
just to spend one single weekend or so.
They were business people, always working, never home, but I loved them.
She SMILED at Sonic and Manic.
SONIC
Why didn't you just go to your grandparents? I mean—
Sonic was cut off when Sonia shook her head.
SONIA
They were far away. I'd need a car, and my parents wouldn't let me
get my driver's license before I was 16.
MANIC
Far away?
Sonia NODDED.
SONIA
Yes.
She turned, and started looking for
something. After a while, she pulled a
book out of her backpack. She put it
down in front of Manic and opened it. A
map.
ANGLE ON MAP
SONIA
This is the most northern areas of Mobius. We lived there.
She pointed at a state on the coast.
SONIA (CONT’D)
And my grandparents lived around there.
She pointed at another little state.
SONIA (CONT’D)
We had to move here too it make the trip a
lot longer. I'm glad we didn't do it
though. We had the money, but my parents
didn't want to. I, well, I didn't really
care. I bet I wouldn't have had any
friends there, and I wouldn't leave the few ones I had in Robotropolis, and I
wouldn’t of had met you guys.
She pointed at another spot on the map. She closed the book and put it back in her
backpack.
SONIA
How about our real mother, Aleena? How was she?
Sonic and Manic looked at each other.
SONIC
Well, I don't think any of us would remember
her. She split us up when we were about one
year old.
MANIC
(dreamy-eyes)
Ah, those diaper days.
Sonic still kept an eye on the road. Sonia looked down at the ground.
SONIA
Oh, sorry, I didn't mean to—
SONIC
Never mind that. We were raised by other people,
remember. I was raised by some
mountaineers. Mother, father, had
everything I needed too. But Robotnik
found out they weren't paying taxes and he robotosized them. So I lived with my Uncle Chuck `till I was 15
and found out about you guys and was reunited with you. Buttnik roboticized my uncle as well and I got
away
Sonic SIGHED heavily.
MANIC
And I was supposed to be raised by some
aristocrat or something. But a thief
stole the basket I was in and I ended up being raised by Farrell, another
thief. When I found you two, he was
roboticized as well... trust me, a life in the sewer might sound gross and so
on, but I had a wonderful childhood.
He looked out of the window. Sonia seemed to be all ears. She just listened, dumbfounded.
SONIA
Listen, I'm sorry about it. I miss my parents, too, but, at least I know my
real mother is alive. It must be
terrible for you!
She shook her head. Sonic smiled.
SONIC
It's OK. Well, we'll get all of them back when the war
is over. It'll be fine.
SONIA
Yeah.
Sonia bit in her lip. Manic put a hand on her shoulder.
MANIC
We're all in this together, sis. No matter what, we're all there for each
other, including you.
SONIA
Right.
Thank you.
She SMILED wryly.
EXT. SONIC UNDERGROUND VAN - MOVING
They finally arrived by Robotropolis. They were about 300 meters away from the city. The van STOPPED.
CUT TO:
EXT. BOMB SHELTER – ROBOTROPOLIS
Two furries, named MILES TAILS PROWER and a
purple hedgehog named ALEENA, stood in front of a small bomb shelter.
TAILS
Here it is, Aleena.
ALEENA
(confused)
What is it?
TAILS
It’s our new home.
ALEENA
Tails, it’s a small bomb shelter.
TAILS
Looks can be deceiving, your majesty. Follow me.
Tails and Aleena WALKED to the front
door. Tails UNLOCKED it and OPENED
it. Behind the door is a STAIRWELL
leading down.
ALEENA
Underground?
TAILS
Yup.
SWAT Bot radars can’t even detect it.
Let’s go.
The two walked down the stairs. Tails CLOSED the door behind him, leaving
Tails and Aleena in TOTAL DARKNESS.
ALEENA (O.S.)
Um, Tails.
TAILS (O.S.)
Give me a minute while I try to find the
light switch.
Footsteps are heard, then a CRASH!
TAILS (CONT’D) (O.S.)
Aleena?
You okay?
ALEENA (O.S.)
(groans)
Yeah, I’m fine. I tripped on something.
TAILS (O.S.)
Be careful.
ALEENA (O.S.)
I’ll try.
I just can’t see anything.
After a short pause, Tails FELT the walks.
TAILS (O.S.)
Okay, I think I found the switch.
Then, the room LIT UP while Tails was being
ELECTROCUTED!
ALEENA
Tails?!
Then, the room went to DARKNESS again.
TAILS (O.S.)
Whew!
I’m okay.
ALEENA (O.S.)
I saw the switch. I got it.
FOOTSTEPS are heard, then a CRASH.
TAILS (O.S.)
Aleena, you okay?
ALEENA (O.S.)
Yeah, I’m—
(pause)
Oh, great. My foot’s stuck.
TAILS (O.S.)
Hang on, I’ll just light a match.
Then, the room DIMLY LIT UP with Tails
holding a CIGARETTE LIGHTER in his hand.
Tails clearly saw an ANGRY look on Aleena’s face.
ALEENA
You knew you had that lighter the whole time?
TAILS
Yeah, I was—
(pause)
Oh!
Sorry.
Tails TURNED and turned on the LIGHT, which
FLOODED the room in light.
TAILS
Well, this is our new home.
ALEENA
Wow, this place looks superb! A martial arts gym, a bedroom, a media room.
Tails GRINNED. Aleena looked down to see that her foot was
actually caught under a bench. She
easily LIFTED it off her foot.
TAILS
It has everything.
ALEENA
Wow.
Hey, where’s the bathroom?
Tails PAUSED and SWEATED.
ALEENA (CONT’D)
(angrily)
Tails, don’t tell me you—
TAILS
(laughs)
Fooled you!
It’s in the back.
Aleena looked back and saw a door.
ALEENA
Okay, well...
Aleena looked around the place.
TAILS
I designed it all myself.
ALEENA
I always admit that you were a good designed.
Tails BLUSHED.
TAILS
Uh, gee, thanks.
ALEENA
So, this is our new home?
TAILS
Well, for the time being. It’s far from the Underground Headquarters,
but you can still get to spy on your children.
Aleena GIGGLED.
ALEENA
Oh, I wouldn’t say I SPY on them.
TAILS
You’re just protective of ‘em.
Aleena SIGHED sadly. She then SAT on the workout bench. Tails SAT next to her.
TAILS
You miss them badly.
ALEENA
I never really got to experience them growing
up.
TAILS
But you’re also proud of them. They lived a great life, then they met, and
they understand pretty much everything now.
ALEENA
Except when this prophecy will actually
occur.
Tails SIGHED and placed his arm around
Aleena.
TAILS
It’s okay.
The most important thing so far is that they’ve got each other.
Aleena forced herself to SMIRK.
ALEENA
That’s true.
TAILS
Yeah.
There was a pause of silence between the two.
ALEENA
Tails?
TAILS
Yeah?
ALEENA
Even though you are about twenty years
younger than me, you are a great a listener and a friend to me.
Tails BLUSHED as that.
TAILS
Thanks, your majesty.
ALEENA
Aleena, Tails. Just call me Aleena. And thank you so much for getting us this
place to live.
PAN OUT to see the entire place. No windows, comfy beds, lights, a gym, a
workout station, televisions, and everything high-tech.
FADE OUT.
