Ode To My Lover On The Floor
Have you been licking the tiles lately?
Look at the water slowly dripping down
You know you’re thirsty
I’ve done it
Beautiful
It’s refreshing
I’m going to need to be refreshed
Once I’m through
Slide down
I can’t watch your back
Sliding slowly down the wet tiles
You wouldn’t know
What that does
Would you?
Didn’t think so
Stop looking up there
I know the metal’s appealing
Don’t ask how I know
I just know
But I don’t want you to touch it
Because if you do
You might use it
Before I’m through
Right
I’ll just turn on this tap and…
There
That got your attention
Are you going to listen to me now?
Good
Thank you
That’s all I’ve ever wanted
Other than to make love to you
You know how long I’ve wanted that?
To make love to you, that is
A long time
I remember the last time
I held your little ankle
In my larger hands
And my kisses drifted
Up your toes
Up your foot
Over your ankle
Up your calf
Over your knee
Up your thigh
Be quiet
As I was saying
You were beautiful
You never lost that beauty
I’d hold your hand in mind
That limp hand
See, that was the problem
You were limp
You did nothing
You lay there
I didn’t hear a gasp
A moan
A groan
A cry
A scream
Nothing
I couldn’t even hear your breathing
Though I admit
That didn’t much unnerve me
But it should’ve been me
I had the reason to
Leave you
For that kid down the road
How old was he?
Fifteen?
Don’t you think that’s a little young?
Of course, I wouldn’t have gone for him
I go for women my own size
And I don’t swing that way
Anyway
It should’ve been you, not me
Who was left alone
In front of the television
With the hand plastered against the screen
Watching static
In the dark room
Alone
Lonely
Survivor
Which you are not
Don’t look at me like that
You know the quieter I become
The deadlier I am
And the more seductive
Let me stroke your neck
Not with my fingers
Look above you
Ahhhh
Perfection
I changed you
Finally
I have nothing left to do now
Nothing left to say
So I will lie in the water
In the blood
In the fluids
On the floor
Next to you
And pick up your head
And cradle it to my chest
As I wait.
