Course Description:

    In this introductory course, the students will learn the basic elements and principles of design and how they can be used as a means of self-expression using a variety of media.  This course will be based on the  S.C. Visual Arts Standards, which emphasize aesthetic perception, creative expression, visual arts heritage, and aesthetic valuing.

Course Content:

    Students will learn the steps of art criticism and art history, along with the elements and principles of design by using a variety of media, as time permits, including drawing, painting, ceramics, sculpture, printmaking, collage and architecture.  A variety of artists and cultures will be explored.  Instruction will include a classroom textbook (ArtTalk),  slide presentations, videos, class discussions, individual and group projects.
