SMOOTH-BILLED ANI
|
One of three Lifers that I got on our trip to Tortola in the British Virgin Islands. All three species were accidental, I hadn't planned to see any new Birds. This flock I lucked into while we were sailing to nearby Norman Island. It wasn't until I looked at the photos that I realized they weren't Groove-billed, but Smooth-billed and a Lifer! Checking a range map might have helped...
The upslurred whistle of this flock lead me right to them. Norman Island, BVI. February, 2003. CP-4500 and EagleEye OpticZoom 5X lens.
Exposure is sure tough with black Birds in full tropical sun! Norman Island, BVI. February, 2003. CP-4500 and EagleEye OpticZoom 5X lens.
On a day trip to Anegada, I was happy to find another flock. The Birds love dry scrubby areas, but I can't figure out what they might be eating? Loblolly Bay, Anegada, BVI. February, 2003. CP-4500 and EagleEye OpticZoom 5X lens.
First an exposure problem, now backlighting? I just couldn't win... Loblolly Bay, Anegada, BVI. February, 2003. CP-4500 and EagleEye OpticZoom 5X lens.
