Solutions
for Toronto's Garbage
27
(Finally, a
miracle!)
With Toronto's problems with where to send garbage and the huge amount of it, the city's latest project is called Task Force 2010. There are three main aims to this project. Number one is to combine the blue and grey box together so that you're able to throw paper materials and cans, jars and plastic stuff in the same box. Many people dislike the hassle of sorting their recyclable items and this will help the city so that there will be less number of pick-ups a month.
A second thing the city plans to do is to start collecting organic material. This will take away lots of garbage in the landfills since most organic material makes up our garbage if we don't produce compost in our own backyards.
The last thing is for the city to pick-up the leftover garbage as normal, but with the changes of gathering organic materials, it will help decrease the amount of garbage.
It is projected that in the year 2006, about 60% of our waste will be diverted and in the year 2010, 100% of our waste will be diverted.
