The Blue and Grey boxes are used for storing regular, everyday, recyclable items until they are ready to be picked up by the city trucks, either garbage or recycling.THE BLUE BOX
The purpose of the blue box is for people to put recyclable items with materials made of Aluminum, Glass and certain plastics. Toronto's Blue Boxes collect the regular stuff which are: Any Glass Bottles or Jars, metal cans, and plastic items with the number 1 or 2 symbol on the item. Only those plastics will be able to be recycled.
The city of Toronto allows you to put special things in the Blue Box. They are: Empty Paint cans (Without Lids), Juice Boxes (No Straws), Empty Aerosol cans (No Caps), and Milk and juice cartons.
THE GREY BOX
Toronto also collects and recycles paper products in Grey boxes. Paper materials such as newspapers, phone books, magazines, etc. are recommended to be put into the box loosely.
13 Special paper materials like corrugated cardboard must be flattened and Tied in bundles of 75 cm X 75 cm X 30 cm (no larger) according to Toronto's recycling and waste management guidelines.the city of Toronto will NOT recycle these items in the blue box: Dishes, Drinking cups and glasses, Light Bulbs, pots and pans, batteries, pottery, mirrors, oil jugs and cans, crystal, Coat Hangers, Plastic Toys, Foam cups, Margarine and yogurt tubs, Tin foil and empty chip bags.

Toronto will NOT recycle these items that you throw in the grey box: Tissues, wax paper, milk cartons, juice boxes and foil gift wrap.Links
