Students will install and configure a Management Information System software package and connect this system to an Internet/Intranet application using VB and Active Server Pages (ASP) technologies. During this module students will begin by developing a client/server application. Students will then take this application and further develop and deploy it across the Internet and a Local Area Network (LAN). Students will discover how to connect the server to the Internet, and use Microsoft Internet Information Server (IIS) software and COM+. Object-Oriented Analysis and Design as well as component-based development will be central to the applications developed within this module.
The skills and hands-on experience students will acquire during this module will be invaluable in the workplace.
Enterprise Application Development (8 weeks)
This module introduces students to the Java language using VisualAge for Java. Students will create a Java-based solution using VisualAge as their Integrated Development Environment (IDE). From an e-business perspective, students will be exposed to Java features, distribution of executable content, platform independence issues, Java language specifics, and Object-Oriented techniques.
RDBMS for Enterprise e-Business (8 weeks)
The tools and methodologies in this component can be used to develop enterprise solutions that fulfill real-world information requirements in large, complex business environments. Students will use a Relational Database Management System (RDBMS) to practice designing and creating database objects to store, retrieve, update and display data in a relational database environment, use Structured Query Language (SQL) to create database objects, and explore database connectivity. Students will also learn the fundamentals of database administration, management and security.
Professional Development Module
In todays fast paced environment, employers are constantly looking for employees who not only have technical competence, but also exceptional interpersonal skills. The Professional Development module has been designed to help students polish their professional abilities. The components are integrated throughout the nine-month program to give them a head start on finding the right career path.
This module is twofold, focusing on career management components and team development exercises. Through team projects, students learn effective time, stress and project management tools, improve their mediation/conflict resolution and communication skills, and evolve their leadership and problem-solving abilities.
This module helps develop a life-long career management process that will be invaluable to both graduates and employers for years to come.
