Milton Anderson Carlisle
  Born Sept. 7, 1841 and Died March 11, 1920

Seventh child of T.A. and Kitty Carlisle.  Anderson served in the Civil War. After the war, he studied law in Mississippi and was admitted to the bar in that state in May, 1868, and entered the practice of law with his brother, James Newton Carlisle at Okolona, under the name Carlisle & Carlisle.  He returned to South Carolina in 1874, which he practiced his profession in Newberry until 1878. For seven years he held the office of trial justice, chairman of the Democratic party and in 1898, was elected president of the National Bank of Newberry. He was also president of Carolina Manufacturing Company.

Anderson was married April 26, 1874 to Mrs. Rosa McMorris, daughter of Col. John S. Renwick.  She was the sister of Emma Elizabeth Renwick, who married Richard Coleman Carlisle.

They had four children:
Edwin Anderson Carlisle b. May 31, 1875 d. Oct. 23, 1939
Nina Rosa Carlisle b. Oct. 7, 1878 d. June 7, 1965
Elizabeth "Bessie" Renwick Carlisle b. Feb. 26, 1881 d. April 26, 1953
John Renwick "Ren" Carlisle b. May 2, 1890 d. Sept. 9, 1957

The photo is the residence of M.A. Carlisle, in 1895.  It was torn down in 1928 to make way for the new Newberry High School, Newberry, SC.
