In this Sugar-Water Solution Model, the water molecules (the solvent) are being represented by the orange ping pong balls; the smaller gray clay represents relatively smaller sugar molecules (the solute). Notice that when sugar dissolves in the water, the sugar molecules fit in between the water molecules. This is what "dissolving" means.
