U.S. History Course Requirements

2001 – 2002

Ansley Cudd

Pickens High School

Grades and Tests:

1.      Students are expected to take ALL tests.  If a student is absent on the day of the test, the student will have ONE week from the day that they return to class to make up this work.  This also includes all class work, homework, and quizzes.  If an assignment or test is NOT made up in that one week, the student will receive a ZERO.  Tests are usually announced up to one week before it is given.

2.      The grading scale is as follows:

93 – 100           A

85 – 92             B

77 – 84             C

70 – 76             D

69 and below          F

3.      A notebook is required for this class.  Students need to get a 3 ring binder notebook.  The notebook should only be used for this class since the notebook checks may require that the teacher keep the notebook overnight (even though this is rare).  Notebook checks will be announced at least one class period prior to the check.  A student will receive a ZERO for the notebook check if their notebook is not in class during the check.  This means the student may not go to their locker or car during class to get a notebook and receive credit for the grade.  Incomplete notebooks may not be made up.  Your notebook will be graded on the ability of the student to keep their notes, quizzes, handouts, etc., in sequential order.  Any set of notes the student misses should be made up.

4.      Book checks will be given regularly and will be part of the students’ nine weeks grade.  Books shown during book checks must belong to that student.

5.      Grades for the nine weeks will be averaged as follows:

Tests / Projects                 50%

Quizzes                        20%

Homework                           20%

Notebook / Book Check       10%

6.      Quizzes will be given regularly and will be both announced and unannounced.

7.      Comprehensive exams will be given twice a year.  Exams are worth 20% of the students’ final grade for the year.  Major tests will generally be given after each chapter has been covered.  Please see syllabus.

8.      Attendance in class is essential in doing well in this course.  Work missed during an unexcused absence cannot be made up!

9.      This year, all U.S. History students will be taking part in a field test for end of course tests.  Further details concerning end of course testing will be provided for you as the teacher gets this information.
