The Yehat Society
The Yehat evolved on a world where there were many faster and better hunters. Therefore they developed lightening fast reflexes. The Yehat had a religion once, basically they believed that there was one god of everything (mostly of war and honor though), and he created all things. He only allowed certain kinds of people into heaven, they had to have a combination of honor, based on just about everything(personality, how a person treated people, etc.) and belief in him. This was the backbone of Yehat society until the Queen abolished religion in 1650 (500 years ago).
This was the mainstream religion of the Yehat for 1500 years, all under the reign of the Yehat Queen. The Queen and religion are the 2 most important things in a Yehat's life. They were a cultural phenomenon, but now they are gone. The Queen symbolize the greatness of the Yehat and leaded the Yehat, the Yehat were naturally patriotic, so the Queen would represent the Yehat incarnate, thus everybody loved her, until she was dishonored.
When the Queen abolished religion Yehat society almost collapsed, by the lack of hope of a god creating them and going to heaven. The society eventually stabilized, but the Yehat were never been as happy since religion was abolished. They retained their honor-based society since it was what kept them together for thousands of years even before the Queen.
The honor-based society is similar to Star Trek's Klingons, but not as brutal and much more noble and decent. Every Yehat goes through rituals for certain things, these rituals give them honor, and some dishonor if they deserve it. The entire society is militarian, the Yehat want to be as strong as they can because back when they were surviving stupid animals they had to be as strong as possible to be above the other better and faster predators. They are the dominate species of their planet and their were many other better species on the planet, but the Yehat won that battle so they are use to going beyond expectations.
Every person strives to make the Yehat stronger and better and bigger. Whether it's farming food, constructing buildings or ships, scientific research or being a soldier in the starfighting clans, whatever makes the Yehat strong in the name of the Queen the better it is. This has allowed them to advance so much. In fact if the Pkunk hadn't left the Yehat (an event that ceased Yehat advancement for centuries) the Alliance probably would have been able to defeat the Ur-Quan.
Their motivation is great, but since the abolishment of religion the Yehat have not been very happy, proud but not happy. Little is done for entertainment, only babies to adolescents are directly entertained, the rest need to find happiness in other things. They feel love the way humans or Pkunk feels love, the wars of ascension prevented that from evolving too much. Adult Yehat have to find happiness in either pride(through themselves or their children) or in they're chosen job (not always chosen, it just given to them if they can to it well). A lot of their society is based on the betterment and honor for the Yehat in the name of the Queen.
This prevents much crime, but also prevents much individual diversity. Many of the Yehat are almost exactly the same as other Yehat, there is of course some diversity, but it is mainly through the diversity of their job. For instance, a Yehat in the starfighting clans would be more authoritative and dominating than a hydroponic farmer. A scientist would require evidence and information to change their mind or think differently. A 'judge' would look and try to find how much honor or dishonor a person has and would be very honor oriented.
Sex doesn't feel good for the Yehat, like it does humans. But the Yehat to have only one mate. Once they become an adult, they have to choose one mate for the rest of their lives and can not 'divorce' unless one of the partners has been dishonored and even then they can not mate with any other Yehat. Usually Yehat don't have a lot of complaints about their partners (and almost none enough to want to divorce them), because they choose a person that they know (they went to school with them, they were a friend, whatever).
The usually don't choose a mate with the same job because for the Yehat it would work. If 2soldier mate with each other they would both be authoritarian and try to command each other and that can't work. If 2 scientist mate with mate with each other they would compete to who would be the most knowledgeable or if their views were different they couldn't cooperate.
NOTE: This is only certain aspects of Yehat society and actual (unlike the other society pages) this can be added to a lot. So send me your idea and all I ask is that it is consistent with the rest of the ASCH pages.
