PC Classes with Magic Use
Magic is much rarer in commom people in the towns, than in the adventurer who travels the country. It takes much time and dedication to learn the hard crafts of magic, therefore: warriors, and common people don't have the time or skill to learn the intricate skill of magic. There are exceptions- such as the Paladin is rewarded with spell casting abilities at later levels through his dedication to justice and honor. The ranger has close ties to nature, and gets many nature, animal, and plant related priest spells.
There are so many spells found in the adnd world. It is one of the most powerful things a person can hold at their disposal in the adnd world. They can summon great monsters, teleport, heal fatal wounds, ressurect companions, or Polymorph into great beasts or other another person.
Wizards must study long hours to memorize the exact formula of a intricate spell, and once he casts it, it is erased from his mind. He can also create illusions so real, they can kill a person from fear. Now that's power.
There are numerous schools of magic in wizardy.
abjuration- usually used to prevent or banish a creature. Sometimes used for safety, when attempting fatal spells.
conjuration and summoning- conjuration normally produces matter already existing and brings it to the caster. Summoning is to compel living creatures and power to appear or channel through the caster.
enchantment and charm- changes in the attitude or quality of a item or creature. Enchantment gives magical powers, while charm changes behavior.
