Miss Alice
E. Smith-1962
Faded memories often come to mind
You were always there for me; gentle and so kind
All the problems I gave you,
seemed just a while ago
When you wanted to speed things up,
I said let's take it slow
You looked so smart in uniform,
it didn't matter which you did wear
I knew where to find you,
for you showed me you did care
Always rather serious,
I'd hardly see you smile
Those are now faded memories;
it took me a while
Our children from separate marriages,
how they did grow
Sharing our laughter and tears as we'd go
Now our youngest ones are married,
children of their own
Where did those years go, Cowboy? how we've grown
Now we're retired,
and that uniform won't fit
No longer slim and slender, but we're still a hit
Friends we've made along the way; the love that we share
Still you stand beside me and show me you care
You knew we were meant to be with the first touch
You've proved that so often, and I knew that much
With age around your eyes, and gray in my hair
I just need to turn around, and I'll know you're there
I'll love you forever, that's a promise I shall keep
Our love is something special, and so very deep
I pray the Lord watches over you, guides us with His hand
Forever is as far as I'll go, and I pray you understand
