Meridian Landing

He saw her, sitting head in hands, on the same porch step where
she'd been the time before. Another instance where tears ran down her face
in muted agony of things she could not change. He did not say a word
expecting silence was what she wished for, but the words spoken this time
were from her own lips, and they broke him to the core.
"My mom is dead."
It was all she said and yet it was enough to destroy the little good
he'd managed to find in two lifetimes of searching. He held out his hand to
her and she took it clasped tightly around her smaller one, while together
they cried.
