October and November 2000

My husband Andy and I had been trying to get pregnant for almost a year with no luck. In September 2000 we finally gave up on playing guessing games, partly because I was so stressed out and depressed that I was afraid that I could be preventing pregnancy just by wanting it so badly. We decided to buy a Clearplan Easy Fertility Monitor, hoping that we could get pregnant fairly easily using it and wouldn't have to worry about going to fertility doctors and all that. Well I got up faithfully every morning and tested my urine, hoping every day that I would have "peaked". Nothing. Nada. I never did "peak" in October or November of 2000 and was on my way to convincing myself that I must have some terrible condition and wouldn't be able to get pregnant.

I hadn't gotten my period in October but I did have a little bit of spotting for about a day in mid-October so I guess I just dismissed that as a "light period". When I still hadn't gotten my period by the end of November 2000, I decided to take a home pregnancy test. I went to the store and bought 3 of them, all different brands. I took the first test.. and there were two faint lines. Unbelievingly I took the second test. Two faint lines. At this point I was pretty distrusting of pregnancy tests so I waited a week and then took the third test. Two very dark lines. Yes!! I showed Andy the tests and he just grinned at me! Of course I'm a cynic so I still went in for a blood test the next day but it came out positive too! I couldn't have been happier!

Believe me I was so relieved to find out I didn't have some crazy disease. I just never peaked with the monitor because I was already pregnant!! I guess buying the fertility monitor relieved my stress enough for me to finally get pregnant! Needless to say, we were ecstatic and immediately called our families to let them know the happy news!
