From Ann Light to Jane Coddington

Ann sent this clue:

My holiday gourd
Won't travel far
Only one state over
I could bring it by car

Not to give a small hint
Wouldn't be fair
We both live northeast
Only I know where

So here's a clue
To help you guess
I made it political
To try to impress

Your senate hopeful
Doesn't bake cookies
My presidential one
Was watched by the bookies

You must lurk
And I do too
You've never heard of me
Nor I of you

My gourd may not pass
The strict Christmas test
But I thought you'd prefer
What I do best

It's cut, burned and carved
I used leather dyes
Embellished with raffia
And sinew-sewn eyes

I hope that you like it
And it brings you good cheer
For the merriest Christmas
And a wonderful year

Her gourd went to Jane Coddington who said:

I am the lucky recipient of a wonderful holiday gourd mask made by Ann Light. Ann is a mask-maker, so she used that as the basis of her holiday exchange. It is stained a dark reddish-brown and has designs wood-burned and painted on it. The edges of it's rectangular eyes have been woven with black sinew. Ann then added holiday embellishments of berries and holly leaves. She designed it, so that these can be removed and replaced with year-round feather and bead "earrings" she enclosed. Very creative! It really is quite spectacular. One of you will be quite pleased and happy if she participates in the gourd Mask exchange and you lucky enough to receive one of her masks. Thanks again, Ann.

From Ann Eubank to Pat Alford

Ann sent this clue:

Attention, Gourdpatchers! After another peculiar growing season (first El Nino, then Floyd--what next?) a unique weather pattern has developed. A very unseasonably early snow storm is on its way (can you believe the direction of this thing?) from the Heartland northeast up across some of the Great Lakes to pounce on one of our Canadian neighbors. Never fear, however, these are very benign and even quite friendly 'gourdflakes'. Wouldn't even frost a gourd on the vine!

Her gourd went to Pat Alford:

From Betty Hickman to Ronna Wuttke

Betty sent this clue:

A little nutcracker is on his way
Heading south I say

All painted in red
Except for his head

Pretty and bright
He's a handsome sight

Has a crafty hat
Had trouble coming up with that

Hope this guy is worthy of your attention
And deserves a place of honorable mention

He won't crack nuts
But he might make you smile
He'll be there
In a little while

Her gourd went to Ronna Wuttke who said:

i received my gourd from betty hickman today...it is a nutcracker and he is adorable!!! he is made from a bottle gourd....the bottom is painted red with glitters all over....his head is separated from his body by a thick gold trim and he wears a silver bell shaped hat. where DID you find it...you said it was hard to get...it looks just like a british bobby hat! he has wisps of white hair curling out of his hat and a pug nose. he really is cute when david brought the mail in i was doing some staining...he came back a few minutes later and started to open the box.....i told him i liked the suspense and i didn't need the immediate gratification.....he said...yeah,right!!! well, i was not disappointed!! thank you so much, betty!

From Colleen Proffitt to Gene Endicott

Colleen sent this clue:

Hope you don't think its too repulsive
But this exchange finds me compulsive.

snowman left here, all in a hurry
Making his way, next door to Missouri.

Her gourd went to Gene Endicott who said:

It is the cutest snowman wearing a floppy hat all covered with snow. He is also wearing a blue vest with patches on it, and he is holding a wreath in one twig hand and a ribbon with a bell attached in the other hand. I want to thank Colleen Proffitt for a job well done. We like him so much, that he is sitting in the livingroom. We can't wait for Christmas to display him, and he will be there long after the season. Thanks again Colleen
