Review for: Rage Against the Machine and U2

Date: 5/16/97

Venue: Death Valley Stadium in Clemson SC

Review: This was my first concert ever... So I kind of didnt really know what to expect... Whatever I knew it was gonna blow me away but I had no idea to what degree it would blow me away... Rage Against the Machine only played for 45 minutes at most... Which at the time didnt bother me seeing as how I was not a big Rage Against the Machine fan at this time... But I their live show TOTALLY changed my opinion of them and now I love them to pieces... :-) I was blown away by U2 because of their amazing stage show... This being the " Popmart " tour their stage had a supermarket type theme to it and it was really neat... Not to mention the entire backdrop of the stage was a tv... Amazing considering it was twice as high as the field goals behind it and as big as the entire endzone... :-)

Review for: Third Eye Blind and Smash Mouth

Date: 2/19/98

Venue: Grady Cole Center in Charlotte NC

Review: This was my first time seeing Third Eye Blind who at the time was my favorite band and my first seeing Smash Mouth who at the time was my 2nd favorite band... This day and the day before were amazing days as I had met Third Eye Blind the day before at an instore cd signing at Manifest Discs and Tapes in Greenville SC... Little did I know that this day would be A MILLION TIMES more amazing than yesterday... I was at Grady Cole Center at like 2pm that afternoon so I could be on the front row as the show was general admission... When the doors opened everyone was checked with metal detectors and I ran immediately to the floor and to the front row... I was the first person to the barricade... :-) I was DIRECTLY in front of where Steve Harwell and Stephan Jenkins were gonna be that night... Little did I know the people who wound up beside me would be some of the best friends I could ever meet... Their names were Tommy, Lola, and Sylvia ( Tommy and Lola's mom )... They were on my left... Justyne was on my right... She had a beer in each hand and was talking about how she knew Brad Hargreaves ( the drummer of Third Eye Blind ) and all this other stuff... Which I was not too inclined to believe seeing as how she was already tipsy and had a beer in each hand... Anyway on to the show... Space Monkeys came out and they were ok... I believe they were from England... But I am not certain... At the time they had a song on the radio but I havent heard anything of them since then... There was then a lenghty set change which seemed like forever seeing as how I was so eager to see Smash Mouth... Greg and Paul came out and as soon as they did the crowd started pushing like mad... Then Steve came out and the crowd went nuts which set off a spree of crowd surfers... I knew I was in for a long night because if they were pushing this hard now I knew it was gonna be worse during Third Eye Blind... I was blown away by Smash Mouth and I knew after the first song I was gonna be a fan for life... All during the set Steve kept throwing out his towels but everyone kept fighting over them and security took most of them... But luckily... He was standing right in front of me with his back to the crowd when they finished up Walkin' On the Sun and he threw his towel back over his head and with me having the long arms that I do ( Long compared to the idiotic moronic teeny boppers there ) I was able to reach out and grab it... :-) Out of all the towels he threw that night ( atleast 7 or 8 ) I was the only person who actually got to keep one... :-) They did 1 or 2 more songs after Walkin' On the Sun and then came the lengthy wait for Third Eye Blind... It seemed like FOREVER... Almost like a day because of my anticipation and also because the crowd was pushing even harder between sets than they were when Smash Mouth was onstage... Finally the lights went out and their intro music started... Finally through the darkness I could see Brad getting behind the drums and Kevin and Arion getting their guitars and FINALLY Stephan stepped up to the mic and once the intro music stopped the first song they played was Losing A Whole Year ( my favorite by them at the time )... Every song they played was amazing... They played the entire album plus a cover song or 2... My favorite part of the set was after they finished Semi-Charmed Life... I had been singing along and making eye contact with Stephan almost the entire song and when they finished the song Stephan winked at me and tossed me his guitar pic!!! I almost couldnt believe it!!! It was at the time only the 2nd guitar pic I have ever gotten... They played a few more songs after this and went offstage and came back out for encores and they ended the night with God of Wine... After the show was over I noticed all the bruises I had gotten from being crushed the entire night and my clothes were as wet as if I had jumped in a pool with them on because it got so hot with all the people so packed in... But none of it mattered cause I had the time of my life... Just a little note to add here me and Justyne were the only 2 people who stayed on the front row the ENTIRE night... Which was a MAJOR task seeing as how wild the crowd was... This is where the fun only began... Justyne then asked if I was going home immediately after the show and I said I have a drive back to South Carolina but I have to eat first... Thats when she said well youre gonna come eat with me and the band!!!! She then proceeded to give me an extra pass to the after show party where I got to hang out and eat pizza with everyone from Smash Mouth and everyone from Third Eye Blind for the next 2 hours... It was AMAZING because I couldnt have dreamed a better night than what was happening to me... Its not everyday you get to hang out and have pizza with your favorite band... :-) All in all this night was one of the most amazing nights of my life and on my concert rating scale of 1-10 it gets a 100000000!!!

Review for: Eve 6, Our Lady Peace, and Third Eye Blind

Date: 8/4/98

Venue: House of Blues in Myrtle Beach SC

Review: After seeing this show in Charlotte on Friday night I was TOTALLY psyched because the show was no less than AMAZING aside from the few minor setbacks that pissed me off... Nonetheless this show 100% TOTALLY completely made up for it!!! I was at the House of Blues a good 4 1/2 to 5 hours before doors were supposed to be open... Figuring I would be the first person there I was wrong... LOL... I was the 3rd... There were 2 girls there who sat 2 rows behind me at the Charlotte show on Friday night... They helped pass those 4 1/2 - 5 hours really quickly... As soon as the doors opened I bolted down the steps right to the barricade... I was on the front row and center... I even beat the 2 girls that were in front of me to the barricade... What can I say I'm a proffesional ;-) LOL!!! It was awesome to be no less than 2 feet from the stage seeing such a kick ass band that generally plays a lot bigger venues than the House of Blues in such a small setting... I figured this show would probably get out of hand with pushing and crowd surfing but it actually wasnt all that bad until Third Eye Blind came on stage... I was instantly made a fan of Eve 6 Friday night in Charlotte so I knew I was in for another amazing night... Only this time sweetened by being so close to the stage instead of being on the front row in Charlotte Friday and still having an open pit area in front of the stage... Anyway on to the show... Eve 6 came out and they were amazing... At first you could tell everybody kinda didnt know who they were but after the first 2 songs or so everyone was into them... Some little girlie even crowd surfed over to my right... Finally Eve 6 did Inside Out and everyone finally realized who they were if they didnt already... They left the stage picking up many fans in Myrtle Beach... Finally about 20 minutes or so after the curtains had closed they opened again and out came Our Lady Peace and Raine greeted the crowd with " Hello Myrtle Beach " ... I was really looking forward to Our Lady Peace again too because before Friday night in Charlotte I was not a big fan of them at all but they made a fan out of me for life in Charlotte... It was amazing being no more than 2 feet from Raine... His voice is just hypnotizing... Finally after playing the same amazing energized set that they played in Charlotte Friday night they left the stage and the curtains closed... Finally about what seemed like years later the house dj started making the announcements of making everyone aware of the exits in case of emergency just like before the other bands... About 2 minutes later the lights went out and the curtains opened and I saw Stephan standing in the darkness to the right of the stage and as soon as their intro music stopped he walked out on stage as energetic as ever and they opened the show with Thanks A Lot and launched through the same set that they played in Charlotte Friday night minus the 3 songs they played acoustic... The reason they didnt play them was because the House of Blues is so small and the stage is so small... They didnt have a good 50% of the stuff on stage this night that they did in Charlotte on Friday night... Just like Friday night in Charlotte they ended with Graduate and then went off stage and came back out and did an encore consisting of a cover of U2's I Will Follow and God of Wine... Before God of Wine Stephan made a big long speech about how the song was the bands " good luck charm " and if they could give the crowd one thing that this would be it... When they finished the song I reached out and Stephan shook my hand and and went down the front row shaking everyones hand and I looked up and there was Brad holding his drumsticks... I was praying he would throw them but he walked away towards his drums like he was then he turned around and threw one up in the balcony and threw the other right to me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I was ecstatic 10 times over and this TOTALLY made my night by far and most definitely makes this one of the top 5 concerts that I have EVER been to... :-) On my concert grading scale of 1-10 this show most definitely get a 100000000!!! :-)

Review for: 311

Date: 11/2/99

Venue: Tremont Music Hall

Review: The 311 show at Tremont Music Hall on 11/2 was AWESOME!!! I got to Tremont around 1:30 or 2 that afternoon... To my surprise there were already 4 people there... They had been to the show on Halloween night in Atlanta and were die hard 311 fans... One girl named Kris had come all the way from Maryland and was literally following them around from city to city... Another girl named Terri was from Atlanta... We all had a really good time talking about 311 and past concert experiences between the time I got there and the time that doors opened... As soon as doors opened I made a " b-line " right to the front row on the barricade... No more than 3 feet right in front of where Nick Hexum was gonna be the entire night... My best concert buddy Dustin was right beside me... Terri and Kris were on the right side of him... Since there was no opening band there was a long wait once doors opened before 311 came on stage... It turned out to be somewhere around 2 hours... Give or take a little bit... Finally some DJ's from 106.5 came out on stage and talked a little and threw some stuff in the crowd... And then the lights went outand the crowd surge started... They stayed out for a little bit and came back on which got everyone a little upset... Finally about 5 minutes later they went out again and 311 walked on stage... They opened up the show with Omaha Stylee and tore through a kick ass set... If youve never seen 311 live before go... They are much better live than they are on CD... I payed the price for being where I was at during the show as I came out with badly bruised ribs... But it was worth it because after they played Down ( the last song before encores ) Nick tossed his guitar pic right to me!!! They went offstage for a while and came back out to the crowd chanting " Who's Got the Herb "... So since the crowd want " the herb " they gave it... Then Nick started thanking everyone and I knew my favorite 311 song was coming next... After he got done thanking some people he said " And you know... before we go... we always have to say... FUCK THE BULLSHIT ITS TIME TO THROW DOWN " and they played my favorite song... Fuck the Bullshit... After it was over Nick said goodnight adn they walked off stage... Chad was last as he was behind his drumset tossing his drumsticks out and I was praying I would get one and somewhere in the midst of all he threw out I got one!!!!!!!!!!!!! Finally me and Dustin and Terri and Kris made our way to where their buses were and a group of people assembled around the buses hoping they would come out and say hi... Finally after a while Chad came out and I got him to sign the drumstick he had thrown out and I got a picture with him... Nick was next to come out and I got a picture with him too... Tim was 3rd and I got a picture with him also... SA was 4th and I also got a picture with him... and P-Nut was last to come out and I got a picture with him too... All of the guys were really nice... Especially Tim... I also got all of the guys to sign my cd's too... All in all this was a great night and definitely one of my greatest memories ever at Tremont Music Hall!!! :-) Also in case anybody cares here is the setlist from the show... 1. Omaha Stylee 2. Freak Out 3. Come Original 4. Do You Right 5. Can't Fade Me 6. All Mixed Up 7. Large In The Margin 8. What Was I Thinking 9. Homebrew 10. Beautiful Disaster 11. Freeze Time 12. Nix Hex 13. Review for: 99X Chinese New Year 2000

Date: 2/26/00

Venue: Fox Theatre in Atlanta GA

Review: The 99X Chinese New Year 2000 show was really good... I was really surprised that 311 was playing it seeing as how they had just played 99X's Brouhaha Halloween show... But that was fine with me 'cause 311 always puts on an awesome live show... Plus not to mention Our Lady Peace is amazing... I'm not gonna go into huge detail about Our Lady Peace and 311 because I have written so much about them in past reviews... I will say I was impressed with Angie Aparo because when I saw him open up for Soul Asylum and Matchbox 20 at Chastain Park he was horrid... Our Lady Peace was really great... They opened up their set with Automatic Flowers... And ended it with Is Anybody Home... Their whole setlist was as follows... 1. Automatic Flowers 2. One Man Army 3. Waited 4. Clumsy 5. Superman's Dead 6. Blister 7. Stealing Babies 8. Starseed ( MY FAVORITE!!! ) 9. Is Anybody Home... 311 was awesome too... They opened up their set with Down and ended it with a 1 song encore of Who's Got The Herb... Their setlist was as follows... 1. Down 2. Freak Out 3. Come Original 4. Misdirected Hostility 5. Offbeat Bareass 6. Can't Fade Me 7. Random 8. Unity 9. Hydroponic 10. 1,2,3 11. Beautiful Disaster 12. What Was I Thinking 13. Freeze Time 14. Nix Hex 15. Plain 16. Applied Science 17. Flowing 18. Lucky 19. Don't Stay Home 20. Life's Not A Race 21. Hive 22. Homebrew 23. All Mixed Up 24. Do You Right 25. Fuck The Bullshit * Encore * 26. Who's Got The Herb?... Review for: Ozzfest 2000

Date: 7/8/00

Venue: Blockbuster Pavilion in Charlotte NC

Review: This was my 2nd Ozzfest... It will FOREVER be an annual event for me to go to... :-) It is an experience I must say... On with the bands... Taproot... Taproot was really cool... I thought they had a lot of potential... I can see some Limp Bizkit influence on them... I'm not even gonna talk about Queens of the Stone Age whatsoever because in my opinion THEY SUCKED!!! BAD!!! P.O.D. ... P.O.D. were really good... They were on band I was looking forward to seeing... I cant say they fully met my expectations but they were really good... Southtown is in my opinion their best song and is even better live... Methods of Mayhem... Methods of Mayhem were good too... I really liked the beginning of their set where they had Tommy Lee come out and play a drum intro... He is an AMAZING drummer... Motley Crue will NEVER be the same without him but he is doing fine on his own... Incubus... Incubus was really good live too... I had been wanting to see them for a while and I missed them when they were touring with 311 earlier in the summer so I made a point to see these guys... I was really impressed and I will most definitely go see them when they come back... Static-X... I'm not a very big Static-X fan so Im not gonna talk much about them... One thing I will say is these guys are AMAZINGLY UNGODLY heavy live... You have to see them to believe it... Godsmack... MY MAIN REASON FOR EVEN GOING THIS YEAR!!! These guys are incredible... Unquestionably the best band of the day by far... I was surprised that they opened with Whatever seeing as how all the other times I had seen them they ended with it... It was a great way to get the set started... They also played 2 new songs from their cd that is coming out on Halloween of this year... They ended the set with Keep Away... I also got 3 guitar pics that the guys threw out during the set too... :-) Pantera... I wasnt expecting to be able to write much about Pantera because before this day I was not a Pantera fan at all... But they put on a really good live show and nonetheless my opinion was changed... They are just a fun band to see live because they somehow find a way to cause total complete anarchy with the crowd and most of all they HATE security... One of the highlights of the anarchy they caused today was this guy tried to start a mosh pit in the aisle directly beside me and security decided that wasnt a good idea and all of the people in the pit got mad and attacked security and security got their asses whooped... HEHEHEHEHE... Anyway my point in telling about this is they all ganged up on this one guy and 3 of these security morons were carrying the guy out and Phil from Pantera stops the show and starts yelling at them and stuff and then he goes on this tirade about how he hates security and makes fun of the security guards along the front of the stage and warns them and the rest of security not to mess with anyone else and even goes so far as to say " Security if you wanna fight someone fight me motherfucker... Youll lose "... ABSOLUTELY GREAT LIVE BAND!!! Definitely a MUST SEE band... ;-) Ozzy... Ozzy was really great and even though I listen to him I am not a huge fan so I am not gonna write an awful lot on him... On to the second stage bands I watched... Shuvel... Shuvel was fun to watch... Another band combining metal and rap vocals... Maybe I'll see them open for someone again... Primer 55... I had downloaded a few songs from these guys before the show so I'd be familiar with them and I was really disappointed in them for some reason... I just cant put my finger on why... Disturbed... Disturbed were GREAT... They impressed me the most of any band I had seen in a while... Every song they did was really good and I rushed out and bought their cd the next day when I got home... :-) I HIGHLY recommend going to see them if you get the chance... The Deadlights... I also had downloaded a song or two by these guys and they were also pretty good live but not what I was expecting out of them... Pitchshifter... Pitchshifter were AWESOME live... My friend Dustin had preached these guys to me ever since we found out the lineup for Ozzfest and I was not disappointed in them... They put on a great show... I can't wait to see them again... Reveille was good but not much I can say about them except they are gonna be the next Rage Against the Machine without a doubt... Kittie... The one and only Kittie... ;-)~~ HEHEHEHE... These girls were AWESOME... They really are good live... Especially to be as young as they are... Their vocals need a lot of maturing... That is my only complaint about them... Other than that they are gonna be HUGE before long... So to close this review out I can only sum it up by 1 word and that is AMAZING... Definitely one of the funnest concerts I have ever been to... :-)
