    5555 Oswald's father died from pneumonia after walking in the rain, so Cobblepot's mother fanatically insisted that Oswald carry an umbrella everywhere-even when it was sunny out. This plus his strange physical appearance led a heartless classmate naming him "The Penguin". Learning from his tormentor, Cobblepot later decided to use barbarism as a weapon himself, becoming the criminal known as The Penguin.

    Although he now ranks in Batman's primary rogues gallery, the Penguin's early sucesses were few and far between. Penguin eventually decided to take a much less physical approach to crime and became a owner to shield his dealings from the law. These days, he's typically seen in his lounge with a couple of beautiful vixens. He continues his secret finacial and underworld dealings.
