*** Now talking in #WCW Chat Moderator: Welcome to #WCW. Tonight we will be chatting with Wrestler Steve "Sting" Borden, star of "Shutter Speed." Welcome Sting!
Steve "Sting" Borden: Hello everyone!
Question from Mike: My question is, will sting have a new look when he makes his long awaited return to WCW?
Steve "Sting" Borden: No, its gonna be the same look. You are probably assuming I'm gonna come back as the old early 90s version of Sting. That's only rumor. I'll be coming back as the Pro-looking STING.
Question from powers2380: Hey I loved "Shutter Speed." Will u be doing any other movies soon?
Steve "Sting" Borden: Yeah, if I had it my way, yes. I had so much fun doing it, I definitely want to do more.
Question from StingsTheMan: Steve, so many wrestlers have broken their necks--Rick Flair, Buff Bagwell.. are you ever worried about that when you wrestle??
Steve "Sting" Borden:Of course... yeah. Actually my neck is a mess right now. I have disks that are pretty messed up... nerves pinched off, all kinds of stuff messed up. I want to get slowly but surely into acting.
Question from CrawFish: Sting, do you feel pressured by the amount of kids watching wrestling, to be a good role model?
Steve "Sting" Borden: Most definitely, yeah. In today's wrestling scene, with each new year that goes by, it's getting more raunchy in a lot of ways. I don't want to compromise... I won't compromise... because of kids especially. I have 3 of my own... we just had a new baby. I won't allow them to watch a lot of what our program is. They can watch me.... but that's where it ends.
Question from CANDYPERFUMEGIRL: I SAW YOUR MOVIE SHUTTERSPEED WERE YOU RELUCTANT TO WORK WITH DAISY FUENTES
Steve "Sting" Borden: Superb... who wouldn't want to work with someone like her? She is beautiful... a real pro. Great personality... I look forward to working with her again some day. I want to involve her on Monday Nitro, and at least one pay per view. But you know, in waiting for all the dust to settle at WCW with all these writers, it never did materialize.
Question from Azmyth: Hey Sting have you ever wished you had never gotten into wrestling?
Steve "Sting" Borden: Yeah... I mean there have been some pretty down days over all these years. Yeah... on those down times, you wish you never got involved. But the reality is that I'm glad I did. Wrestling has been good to me in a lot of ways. But it has also been a real rocky road as well. But it definitely built some character in me that I undoubtedly needed.
Question from Riley: Any truth to the rumors of a TV series being offered to you.
Steve "Sting" Borden: You know, "Shutter Speed" was made as 2 hour movie of the week for TNT, with the idea that maybe it could be kinda like a pilot as well. And yeah... I mean.. the subject has been talked about before. But I'm not gonna hold my breath on that one.
Question from Genesis: Sting when did you know that you wanted to become a pro wrestle?
Steve "Sting" Borden: Wow about 1985 I went to the Sports Arena in Los Angeles and saw Hulk Hogan wrestle along with a lot of other big name wrestlers. And the arena was jam packed with all the merchandise they sell. The crowd was... you know.... in a frenzy. I think that was probably the day I thought ... there is something here. And I always picture myself doing something in front of 1000s of fans... but I never knew it would be wrestling.
Question from stung4ever: What is the best thing a fan has ever given you or done for you?
Steve "Sting" Borden: Probably a smile believe it or not. You know I've done some work for "Make a Wish" Foundation, Starlight foundation... and to meet with a youngster especially who maybe hasn't smiled for months because of all the chemotherapy and surgery and radiation. It's nice to be able to put a smile on their face... as well as their entire family. I'd say that's probably the most meaningful.
Question from jordanv: What do you see yourself doing after you retire from wrestling?
Steve "Sting" Borden: Hopefully acting and being a father and husband.
Question from noel: Have you been getting positive feedback on the film?
Steve "Sting" Borden: Um.... yeah, but the positive feedback I've been getting is from family and friends. But it seems from some people to be sorta .... "ok, like... well you know... everyone has a beginning, this was yours."
Question from lilsunshine9697: Who inspired you to wrestle>
Steve "Sting" Borden: Nobody inspired me to... honest answer. I was living in Calif... and you know... getting bored. I began the auditioning process for commercials and TV. I was already looking.... and wrestling came along. And I said, "hey...I'm looking for a change."
Question from The_Demon: Sting, I was wondering how many of your stunts did you do yourself?
Steve "Sting" Borden: Well this was a really top of the line good budget TV movie. So I had my own stunt double. But I did do some minor stunts, some motorcycle riding, and some hanging on to the side of the truck when it was moving. But that's about it.
Question from Whats: What's been your favorite match in history with you in it
Steve "Sting" Borden: Probably it would have to be... there are 3 matches... I can't say only one. The first one would be the very first Clash of Champions, 1988 versus Rick Flair. The second would be 1990, July, the Great American Bash, Rick Flair again. That was in Baltimore Maryland. And the last one would be Starcade of 1998, San Francisco... Hulk Hogan.
Question from sarah: STING DID YOU EVER VISUALIZE HAVING THIS MANY FANS?
Steve "Sting" Borden: No, I really don't think I could comprehend what has gone on. I don't think I had any idea.
Question from Bigger: Sting, who is one person that you would like to wrestle more than anyone else?
Steve "Sting" Borden: I'd like to wrestle the Undertaker and um....Lex Luger and The Rock too.
Question from Stingistheman: In what sports did you participate in High School? Wrestling?
Steve "Sting" Borden: No, only basketball. I love basketball.
Question from SCORPDLM: Sting, will you ever write an autobiography about your life in wrestling?
Steve "Sting" Borden: You know, that subject has come up a lot in the last year. And you know, I just might do that. But I would I would want give a real straight up account of my life over the last 15 years and everyone that was involved with it.
Question from StingsTheMan: Hi Steve. If you could write the screenplay for your next movie, what would it be about??
Steve "Sting" Borden: Good question. IF I could write one... that's the tricky part. It might be about the book of Revelation out of the Bible -- a modern day representation of the events that are unfolding right now as we speak. Things like famine, drugs and prostitution, natural disasters. But you know... .like a 100 million-dollar budget... make it really good.
Question from JTsUMF: What direction would you like to see WCW take? Would you consider being more involved with the writing etc?
Steve "Sting" Borden: Well I was at one time and it was great. I had a lot of creative control over what I was doing in 97 and 98. I had a great working relationship with Eric Bischoff. And if I could recreate that working environment again, then I would love to do it.
Question from Toni: What would you do if your children wanted to get into the wrestling game?
Steve "Sting" Borden: Uh.... I would probably discourage them from doing it. Lucky for me none of them have interest in it... they have other ventures. Like I said earlier, it isn't all fun and games. It isn't all it seems to everyone out there in TV land. It's a real cutthroat business.
Question from rayray: what do you do in your spare time besides golf and ride your Harley?
Steve "Sting" Borden: I just bought a little fixer upper house. And my wife and I like to do that... we always wanted to buy an old house... We bought one built in 1934 and we're redoing it. And having fun with that.
Question from Mini-Sting: What do you think about the new WCW movie coming out in the spring, "Ready To Rumble"?
Steve "Sting" Borden: I think it'll probably be very successful. David Arquette and Scotty Caan, Oliver Platt and other big name actors are in it. It's gonna be funny... bathroom humor all the way. It's kind of a combination of Dumb and Dumber, Beavis and Butthead, Wayne's World, all combined into one.
Question from SavySting: Sting did you watch wrestling growing up? If so who was your favorite?
Steve "Sting" Borden: Until the day I got started in wrestling, I didn't know ONE wrestler. I knew the NAME Hulk Hogan and that's it.
Question from Stingfan-rockin: How did you get the name Sting?
Steve "Sting" Borden: I gave it to myself.... haha. When I first started, my first tag team partner was the Ultimate Warrior. And he actually started out with the name "Rock." And I was "Sting."
Question from k: What's the Warrior up to Sting? Didn't you guys form a tag team in the 80's?
Steve "Sting" Borden: I haven't talked to him since the last time he appeared on our show.
Question from dhoff: How long have you been married and how have you kept your marriage going?
Steve "Sting" Borden: It has been 14 years. And through the last year and a half.... two years ...through the power of Jesus Christ.
Question from GMNI: Would kind of acting would you prefer to do next: Drama, Comedy, etc?
Steve "Sting" Borden:I think a lot of fans are gonna be surprised but I would love to do comedy. And my second choice would be a western.
Question from i: Who are some actors or actresses that you would like to work with?
Steve "Sting" Borden: I love some of those more established guys like Al Pacino, Anthony Hopkins, DeNiro. And then you know... I love Travolta and Tom Hanks. I really don't have favorites. I've appreciated most of them all in different work that they have all done from time to time.
Question from shannon: In what direction do you want your character to take on WCW ?
Steve "Sting" Borden: I'm still unclear on that. I'm not withholding information... I'm just not sure where to plug myself into here. There is still so many changes going on. And in the process there have been a lot of sacrifices made; some good, some bad. And I just hope that I haven't made one sacrifice too many on myself.
Question from starchild711: Sting, what is it like working with the other wrestler's and do you all get along well?
Steve "Sting" Borden: Well, pretty much everybody gets along. But you know, it's a cutthroat business, so your good friend might tell you he feels bad that you are out with an injury, but as soon as you turn your back, he is ready to move in on your territory...your position. Many will say that is true of any profession. But I happen to feel that it is more severe in wrestling. But for the most part we all get along.
Question from jarlaxle: Who built the motorcycle you are riding in 'Shutter Speed' ?
Steve "Sting" Borden: That was made by a company called "Big Dog."
Question from aquamwoman: What did your wife think of you kissing Daisy???
Steve "Sting" Borden: Uhh.... she was ok with it. Nothing that she really wants me to do with every part I get, but she was ok with it.
Question from DTC: Would you ever consider wrestling as "Steve Borden" instead of "Sting"?
Steve "Sting" Borden: Yes.
Question from If: Is there any one wrestler not in WCW that you would like to see in the promotion?
Steve "Sting" Borden: Yeah, I'd like to see Cactus Jack, The Undertaker, The Rock, and Stone Cold Steve Austin.
Question from DallasStarsBoy: WHY DID YOU GROW YOUR HAIR OUT?
Steve "Sting" Borden: To change my image and go from one Sting and move the same character into a more Edgy character.
Question from doopy23: Do you enjoy all the travel?
Steve "Sting" Borden: No!!! No.... by the time I get there I'm ok. But the travel process of getting on a plane, renting a car, checking into the hotel, after all these years I'm over that.
Question from stingfan123: How many total times have you wrestled (Estimate)
Steve "Sting" Borden: Lets see.... I'd say probably about 6000, or maybe more like 8000... .I don't know.
Question from Snow: What's the best advice that you've ever been given, not just about wrestling?
Steve "Sting" Borden: It would probably have to be in developing a relationship with God and with Jesus Christ.
Question from WCWFan: Steve, I'm sure you enjoyed making the movie, but did you miss being in the ring during the production of the movie?
Steve "Sting" Borden: I filmed for 6 weeks and flew private charter to and from every single week to do Nitro. I never missed a beat. It was grueling. I'd film throughout the week and I'd eat a little breakfast on Sunday morning, and I'd get on a commercial airline, fly from Vancouver to the US, film Nitro... then as soon as the show was over, I'd get on a private jet and fly back against the gulf stream. I'd get into Vancouver at 3 or 4 or 5 AM, and have a 6:30 call time the next morning. So it wasn't easy.
Question from Crystal: Who's your favorite tag team partner?
Steve "Sting" Borden: Probably Rick Steiner
Question from DanTheMan: Have you ever visited some of your fan sites on the web?
Steve "Sting" Borden: No, I never have. And hopefully in the next few months will develop my own website. You won't see anymore bogus sites out there once I get up and running.
Question from VicNPhil: I really respect you keeping your private life quiet ...Is this a hard thing to balance with your popularity?
Steve "Sting" Borden: Yes it is very difficult.
Chat Moderator: Anything else for the chatters?
Steve "Sting" Borden: I just want to thank everybody who supported me through all these years. I have enjoyed all the good times. I hope I can have more! God bless each and every one of you.
Chat Moderator: Thanks for joining WCW chat!
Steve "Sting" Borden:Thank You all.... good bye
